On wednesday Avatar 2 have passed R$200M and the first movie's admissions, but also got down to 2nd place for the first time to Puss in Boots, and on thursday, to third for Puss and M3gan. We will probably see a 3-way race to the top of these 3 movies for the final weekend.

Box office 19-22 january

Movie Box Office (R$)             Change (%) Total (R$)    Admissions total (Est)
1 Avatar: The Way of the Water 9.530.000 -37.6% 209.550.000 9.810.000
2 Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 8.670.000 -12.1% 51.268.000 2.707.000

4 Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody 1.229.000 -40.6% 4.160.000 173.000
5 Babylon 928.000 --- 928.000 32.000
6

The Fabelmans

478.000 -43.5% 836.000 60.301
7 Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre 470.000 -56.9% 2.065.000 100.600
8 Chef Jack 394.000 --- 394.000 18.000
9 Plane (Preview) 340.000 +55.2% 631.000 26.944
10 Fervo 136.000 --- 136.000 6.000

This weekend, Avatar 2 remained on top for the 6th time, but sold 360k tickets and that is less than the 415k tickets Puss in Boots 2 sold and almost tied to M3gan, so quite likely it will be down for the animation next weekend.

Next weekend we will release Plane, A Man Called Otto, Tár, A Última Festa and The Devil's Conspiracy. In the mid-week we will also have BTS - Yet to Come.

10 The Fabelmans 310.000 -35.1% 2.100.000 11.600 83.804

Added a little something more to the ranking with the admissions of the weekend alongside the total admissions. Might not do this every week but I thought it would be interesting to add once in a while.

January saw a total of R$140M on box office, an increase of more than 37% from last year, starting 2023 with a right foot.

Puss took the lead from Avatar for the first time, ending Avatar's 6-week long victory. Plane finally had its full release thought it is hard to say if the half-month previews helped or hurt it, Otto had a good start, Tár failed to enter the top 10 while Fabelmans had an increase in tickets per screen, but it still got down due to lesser screenings this weekend. M3gan is getting real close to selling 1 million tickets and it might get there as soon as next weekend if it manages to do a sub 50% drop.

Next weekend we will see the release of Knock at the Cabin, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Amazing Maurice, Project Gemini, Hut, Porto and the re-release of EEAAO.

Slow start for Cabin, but it got a 3.6 audiences score (Decent for a thriller) and while still early, friday is looking a little better, I feel it can improve over the weekend.

EDIT: never mind that now that the next Cinema Week is announced legs might slow down as people will wait for the cheaper prices next weekend.
