In 2015 we had Minions and Inside Out competing this time of year, and Minions dominated with R$119M vs R$46M. IO opened in line with US (June 18) while kids are out of school starting the final weekend of June and during the whole month of July, maybe that's why Disney held Dory until June 30, even though it will face competition from Ice Age 5 the following weekend.

BTW, Dory will have midnight previews, have they done that before with animated movies?

Thanks for your insight :) Indeed, having Dory on June 30 makes sense then :)

As for Midnight previews that's great, never heard of this before for this kind of movie.

I was referring both to the list of

top 20 movies all time and the list of top animated movies!!!

Well, that's not the best list ever that's for sure..But I still think it's better than the Chinese lists -_-

I'm hoping Dory can top all those rankings :D

It can do it :)

I expect R$65m-70m, putting it in the top 10 and far ahead The Good Dinosaur (R$48.5m), in USD that would mean around 18.5m, making it the fourth biggest Disney / Pixar movie in USD.

But I can be wrong : maybe it will outperform that :D

Ice Age franchise in local currency :

  Ice Age :   R$13.3m

Ice Age 2 : R$42m

Ice Age 3 : R$81m

   Ice Age 4 : R$94.7m

An amazing growth! Can IA5 pass R$100m? Hard to say : inflation of ticket prices since 2012 will definitely help but on the other hand the competition from Dory could impede it.

That will be fascinating to see though.

In USD it will end under IA3&4, it's inevitable given the ER!

BRAZIL BOX OFFICE REVENUES

2006 : $351m

2007 : $360m

2008 : $369m

2009 : $490m

2010 : $637m

2011 : $727m

2012 : $732m

2013 : $795m

2014 : $830m

2015 : $500m

No, you don't dream, the value of the Brazilian market considerably dropped in USD. In local currency 2015 was a very good year with a 17% growth over 2014 but the fall of the Brazilian Real against the USD has been so violent that such a number in USD was inevitable. Of course 2016 should show a significant growth in USD if the exchange rates keeps improving.
