Fullbuster
Suicide Squad is now the 4th biggest movie of the year in USD, passing the local movie Os Dez Mandamentos. It is behind Civil War, Batman vs Superman and Finding Dory. It can pass Dory but the battle could be harder than expected given SS is falling quite much, and Dory showed some late legs so it could gross a bit more in the next few weeks. Brazil seems to be the kingdom of comicbook movies and animated movies, no much room for something else apart from movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter. Fullbuster
Café Society grossed $0.45m OW or R$1.5m. That's better than I thought, that's still very low but it's really close to The Shallows
Fullbuster
This is the end for Finding Dory and Ice Age 5. Dory only grossed R$0.096m and IA5 got even less. While they were clearly at the end of their run Pets probably accelerated this. It was beautiful to follow and brought a lot of dynamism to this thread. Fullbuster
BRAZIL : MY FIRST PREDICTIONS FOR 2017 IN LOCAL CURRENCY Star Wars 8 : R$128m Fast Furious 8 : R$140m Beauty and the Beast : R$60m Despicable Me 3 : R$125m Transformers 5 : R$50m Guardians of the Galaxy 2 : R$80m Cars 3 : R$65m Justice League : R$150m Pirates 5 : R$75m Thor 3 : R$77m Planet of the Apes 3 : R$66m Spiderman: R$90m Wonder Woman : R$110m Black Panther : R$70m The Mummy : R$50m Kong: Skull Island :R$50m The Great Wall : R$45m Coco : R$55m I expect 2017 to be a really good year thanks to a much better exchange rate, an economy that will grow slightly instead of falling and the usual fast growth in local currency that's definitely helpful. After 2 difficult years 2017 is likely to be the year of the rebirth for this market in USD. That's why my predictions are quite optimistic I could be totally wrong of course but we seem to follow this path for now. In local currency 2017 will be really delightful, Justice League could even pass Avengers 2 to become the biggest movie of all time Edited August 29, 2016 by Fullbuster

It passed Avatar in local currency to become the 11th biggest movie of all-time. It will pass Tropa de Elite 2, entering the top 10, and Star Wars 7 will probably go down. By ejecting Tropa de Elite 2 from the all-time top 10 SS will bring something interesting : Os Dez Mandamentos will be the last Brazilian, non-American movie of this top 10. Next year the top 10 could become 100% American.

Of course, I don't make unrealistic predictions. Look, in 2016 they wouldn't be able to do that, that's quite clear...But if the ER comes back $1 = R$2.8 then they really could do it. With the usual strong ticket price increase and moviegoers increase that would give us a very boosted market in USD, something like +35% or so, not a small feat! Now it depends of the ER, but that's realistic given most of the political crisis is over while the economic one is likely to lose steam.
