SEPTEMBER 20TH-21ST WEEKEND. TOD@S CAEN: THIRD BEST DEBUT OF THE YEAR FOR A LOCAL TITLE AND ANOTHER BIG SCORE FOR THE HIGAREDA-CHAPARRO DUO. PHOTO-FINISH BETWEEN LOSERS AND DORA FOR RUNNER-UP TITLE. AD ASTRA DOUBLES FIRST MAN AND RUNS ON PAR WITH BLADE RUNNER 2049.

Tod@s Caen

- Third best launch of the year for a local title behind No Manches Frida 2 and Mirreyes Contra Godínez.

- Third best opening for the Higareda-Chaparro duo behind the two Frida installments and 9th best opening ever for a local title.

- Should leg towards $130M+ and end up as the third highest grossing local title of the year.

It: Chapter Two

- Running 2.04% above The Nun at the same point of release. Still looking at $425M+ total. A 12%-14% drop from first It. However, due to the strong hit on inflation during the last year the decrease in admissions is looking to be of nearly 30%.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold

- Already surpassed Christopher Robin and still going strong towards $150M. We’ll see how it fares with Abominable opening this weekend.

Ad Astra

- More than double of First Man and on par with Blade Runner 2049 but less than half of Gravity and just half of The Martian.

I'll update until Monday after sales speed up but advance sales for Joker still going on a great pace. But I'm comparing it with It: Chapter Two and it's interesting the effect Thursday night previews have at this point; Joker holds midnights whereas It had Thursday night previews (starting 9:00 pm) and Joker is running 2/3 below It comparing midnights at this point vs final sales for previews but when comes to sales for FSS the clown prince of crime is close to outsell Pennywise's final sales. Big opening ahead.

PS for Joker are somehow tricky. At Cinemex is running 25% behind It: Chapter Two at the same point before opening when comparing Thursday previews vs Midnights. However, sales for FSS have outpaced entire FSS sales for the Andy Muschietti movie. So even if midnights for Joker come under It's previews we can assume is going to be less front-loaded.

At Cinepolis midnights are running at the same pace as Thursday night previews. Just as in Cinemex the sales for the regular FSS frame are stronger for Arthur than they were for Pennywise.

Something is worth to clarify that gave somehow a bit of advantage to It is the existence of its 4D version compared to the lack of 4D shows for Joker.

I'll track again on Wednesday and do a final forecast but sticking with $165M-$175M at the moment.

At Cinépolis Joker now is going 6% ahead of It: Chapter Two at the same point before release when comparing midnights and previews. FSS still going stronger for the DC villain with a bigger number of shows.

Cinemex coming later tonight.

Lots of screens popping up for el Guasón, could it reach Suicide Squad levels?

Not sure but I rather go conservative.

Btw this is getting a day-on-date opening and full run in pretty much every single art-house and drive-in theatres I know in the main cities including Cineteca Nacional. Completely unprecedented for a wide release.

This is the current Top 4 lc for DC movies, I think the #5 is one of the Dark Knights. Hope Joker can join them!

01    630,763,242    Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
02    605,600,000    Aquaman (2018)
03    514,743,874    Suicide Squad (2016)
04    471,835,362    Justice League (2017)

PS at Cinemex had a big jump too. It has catched It 2 for number of sellouts at the same point before release. Near sellouts are 28% behind but overall shows are about 12% higher and counting.

FSS sales are where it gets crazy as Joker is practically destroying the comp.

Crazy weekend ahead. Going with $180M for the opening; 2nd best for October and 3rd best for a B-15 title.

Huge increase on sales at Cinépolis. Wed-Thu jump nearly 10% bigger than Mon-Wed jump. Also massive sales for regular Friday sessions.

At Cinemex it couldn't keep the pace It 2 had with midnights and previews but regular sessions are selling 3-5 times better than the horror tale.

If walk-ups are as strong as they indicate I count at least 3 new records.

200M+ lc opener would be anything but a... joke.

:Venom:

It 2 is now the 50th highest grosser in lc:

48    425,000,000    The Nun (2018)
49    421,597,696    Secret Life of Pets (2016)

50    421,500,000    It Chapter 2 (2019)
