- Another powerful hold. It’s looking to finish in the area of $370M-$380M. Improvement from past Jumanji.

 

Charlie’s Angels

- With a day less of run it opened similar to Mortal Engines last year. $100M is looking hard though.

 

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

- Already surpassed The Last Jedi’s lifetime gross and keeps running nearly 20% above it. In admissions the gap has completely reduced to less than 5%. However Last Jedi had a better New Year’s hold and then big drops so $300M might take longer than it seems.

 

Frozen 2

- Third best 7^th weekend ever only below such frames of Avatar and Coco. Late legs have really done way better than expected also pushing it past 10M admissions. 50/50 chances to pass $550M lc.

- Impressive increase despite no major growth in screens. Wom definitely kicked in extremely well.

I'm kinda doubtful tbh. It'll get a final boost today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) as kids return to school until Wednesday but then it won't perform as well but at least it'll pass Finding Dory (10.3M)

So the final numbers are in (as per Canacine) and indeed we crossed the 19 Billion mark. 19.05B in total. This is nothing short of outstanding.

Even the record of tickets sold fell this year at 350M (2 Million more than previous high of 2017)

 

So 2020 will not even come close to these numbers (I think)

 

At least for the time being Charlie's Angels has indeed being a good player (already at 55.3M, can it get to 85M?).

 

This week there is nothing really outstanding, probably Underwater can make some splash but I'm not really condifent.

 

Next week we have the major Oscar player (which will surely have many nominations on Monday) in 1917... can it get to 100M when all is said and done?

• Biggest year ever for local movies: 1.8 billion pesos, almost 10% of the overall gross.

• Frozen 2 $28.3M, another good weekend, getting very close to 550M lc.
• Jumanji 2 repeats at #1, $19.0M total, around 360M lc.
• Star Wars 9 $15.9M, crossed 300M lc. Or did it?
• Underwater the highest opener at #2 with $900K.

In other news, Mexico is now considered as a mature market as per this report from Deadline. It also mentions that the country saw double-digit growth in local currency, and it’s accepted wisdom that if Disney has a big year, the market benefits.

And with 6 Oscar nominations under it's belt and incredible WOM... will surely double that amount. Can it sustain and get to 100M? Speaking about that do you know which is the most succesful non-mexican/latin/spanish/gringa movie? I can't recall any movie from Poland or China or any other country getting that high. - It comfortably passes $300M with $12M+ left in the tank. In admissions is about 4% below The Last Jedi.

- Very similar 8^th weekend to Coco! It refuses to lose any steam and now is the 9^th highest grossing animation ever over Ice Age: Dawn of Dinosaurs.
