JANUARY 17TH-19TH WEEKEND. BAD BOYS TOP THE CHART AND OPEN ABOVE XXX 3 AND RESIDENT EVIL 5. 1917 OPENS BELOW DUNKIRK AND ON PAR WITH AD ASTRA. PARASITE KEEPS GROWING AS IT EXPANDS.

Bad Boys For Life

- 26.3% above XXX: Return of Xander Cage and 8.4% over Resident Evil: Retribution (on par in admissions). Shall target a $160M+ total run if follows previous comps but isn’t much competition ahead so it could go higher.

1917

- 19.5% below Dunkirk, on par with last year’s Ad Astra and double of 2016’s Hacksaw Bridge. Its good position in the Awards Season bodes well for a prolific run and a potential $100M+ gross.

Parasite

- It expanded to more locations and it paid well. It hasn’t reached 1,000 screens but it’s showing strength even with competition and less shows. It’s the biggest Korean title ever released in the country surpassing Train to Busan.

Jumanji: The Next Level

- Scores the sixth best 6th weekend ever behind similar of Coco, Avatar, Marvel’s The Avengers, Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4. It has topped past Jumanji now and aims to become the 13th title released during 2019 to cross $20M USD.

Frozen 2

- Second best 9th weekend ever only under Avatar’s. Also, it joined Maleficent: Mistress of Evil as the only movies since Coco to spend 9 weeks at the Top 10.

JANUARY 24TH-26TH WEEKEND. BAD BOYS REPEATS AT TOP AND IS POISED TO BECOME FIRST $10M USD GROSSER OF THE YEAR. CINDY LA REGIA OPENS AS THE SECOND BEST JANUARY LAUNCH FOR A LOCAL. OSCAR FRONTRUNNERS 1917 AND PARASITE HOLD STRONGLY.

Bad Boys For Life

- It has already surpassed lifetime grosses of xXx: Xander and Resident Evil 5. Shall cross $200M and $10M USD and consolidate as one of the biggest January releases ever.

Cindy La Regia

- Second best opening for a local during January only behind last year’s Mirreyes vs Godínez. It should become first $100M lc local grosser of the year.

1917

- Better hold than Dunkirk’s second frame. It’ll keep capitalizing on its success through Awards Season to cross $100M lc.

Little Women

- Already above Lady Bird’s entire run. By Friday it should be over Vice’s and The Favourite’s final grosses.

Jojo Rabbit

- Well above previous Searchlight titles like Three Billboards and on par with last year’s sleeper hit Green Book.

Parasite

- It’s now above Best Picture winners such as Green Book and 12 Years a Slave and in a matter of days it’ll be over strong nominees like La La Land and A Star Is Born.

Awards Season

We’ll be able to declare it official until next week but this is the first time ever all Best Picture nominees at Academy Awards with a theatrical release gross at least $1M including all-time high for Quentin Tarantino as well as the highest grossing BP nominee ever Joker which surpassed 2010’s Toy Story 3 and the historic run of Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite. If 1917 and Parasite continue to pull a constant run we’ll have five $100M+ BP nominated titles. This is the result of an incredible first-time ever seen effort of distributors and exhibitors to deliver proper releases to the wider audience they can. As for not proper released through theaters titles Netflix commented earlier on The Irishman’s becoming one of the 10 most reproduced titles in Mexico during 2019.
