I've already purchased my tickets for The Nun in Imax for Friday the 7th (first horror movie I will ever see in Imax, that's strange). I'm thinking at least 130M for opening weekend as we haven't had any good horror movie in a long time and this one has Bichir's Power (hahaha).

For this weekend I expect:

1. El Meg (4peating) with anything between 25-28M

2. Mile 22 probably can get to 18M

3. Alpha with something like 14-15M

4. Slenderman with 12M

That's a good prediction, the movie has many things working for its success: it comes from weak weekends and won't have much competition after its release, also the religious topic is going to draw a lot of people. I expect something between $120M-$140M, which would be higher than Annabelle: Creation's 4-Day opening.

So... I'm basically terrible at this¡ Alpha in first place?? with 33 Million? Didn't see that coming really.

Mexican Movies have had a good run, at least two movies have been in the top ten since the last weekend of July. This week it was the turn of "Ana y Bruno" and "Tiempo Compartido" (although I did see the last one and didn't like it. Found it boring, pretentious and ultimately blah... and going out the theater the man behind me turn to his wife and said: "Well... this was really terrible")

Also I saw the trailer for El Dia de la Union (hadn't heard about that movie before seeing it). My question is: Will people rally behind it (as it looks intense and it will most surely be corny) or will it be shunned completly due to the memory of the recent events? whatever the outcome I expect a lot of crying in theaters

AUGUST 31 – SEPTEMBER 2. ALPHA OPENS ON TOP AND MEG GOES FOR $400M BEFORE THE NUN ARRIVES.

Alpha

-Fine opening I guess? Should reach $70M+, not exactly a hit or a flop

The Meg

-Insane run this one is having, unlike most of its comps it hasn’t collapsed in any weekend (not yet) and now is running 16.86% behind San Andreas and should finish just over/under $400M, apparently barely is going to make it.

Speaking of mexican cinema, this year was the shortest time for local productions to reach $1B in box office, the number came before this weekend. The all-time record belongs to 2013 with $1.3B

Ana and Bruno unfortunately was a flop, and one that everyone saw coming. The movie costed over $100M so was totally expected, its only hope are overseas markets.

As for El Día de la Unión it could be anything but Kuno Becker is box office poison lol and it really looks bad, so not expecting much, but stranger things have happened.

So here we are the weekend where The Nun will get to 130M at least. Everyone that I know is excited to see this one.

Other movies? Alfa should not do that bad with about 20M but I think this is the weekend where El Meg gest chomped to 11M just because The Nun will get all the big screens (including that Rare Imax run)

Do you think The Predator has any chance on breaking through on the 21st? I'm really looking forward to see that one as well as Crazy Rich Asians

$69.6M OD for The Nun, easily a new high record for horror beating It by 26% and last year's Annabelle: Creation by over 120%! Although is hard to compare since those two opened on thursday.

Anyway... this bodes well for another $200M+ opener, first for horror and among Top 10 all-time

Maybe, I'm expecting solid numbers and even bigger numbers than Covenant but nothing jaw-dropping.

About half of those numbers for both.

There you go, massive $10.7M OW for The Nun, about 205M lc. Could this become an unexpected member of the 500M lc club?

Based on the low internal multi compared to other movies of the genre and upcoming competition i say it has a very small chance.

Boo. So IT should remain safe at 491.6M lc.

More info about The Nun from Deadline: The $10.7M launch on 3,967 screens repped 87% of the Top 5 films and claimed the 3rd highest opening weekend ever for a WB film.

El Meg reached $20M!
