In $lc nothing makes list, outside list  highest pre 2004 Spiderman (2002)  & Titanic

In Admits the only additions to the list Spiderman (2002) & Titanic

How about older stuff like Jurassic Park, Mojo lists it at ~$20m back in 93? Or the likes of Jaws, Star Wars etc?

Movies from before mid 90s are hard to list since ER was different, the Salinas' government had to reduce three zeros to mexican peso, it costed thousands to get a dollar.

The "nuevo peso" (with the last 3 zeros removed) was introduced in 1993 with an ER of about 3, so a high US gross that year didn't necessarily reflect a high LC gross. Due to that, I still think admissions are a better barometer of a film's popularity overseas.

By the way, with that ER, Coco would have earned over $300M!!!!

Yes when comparing movies, I always prefer to look at admissions as I think it is a fairest comparison as you take out the influence of exchange rates and inflation.

I have never seen any older admissions data for Mexico. I know that Jaws, for example, is listed as having 13m admissions in Brazil and Titanic 17.7m and assumed that the figures in Mexico would have been similar.

Titanic was huge in admissions and the first true blockbuster in both ticket sales and gross was Spiderman. There were way less cinema screens before the 00's around the country so don't think any other movie would have reached 10M tickets sold. Said that, local movies were very popular in the 40s and 50s, pity there's not much info.

I think any company has data from before 1997, only studios have that info. Nielsen started track on 1997, then was acquired by Rentrak and now is all found on ComScore.

Titanic sold over 11M from original run and then over 1M extra with the 3D re-release. That movie was a true phenomenon

That Titanic number is astonishing. To me it is truly the last worldwide phenomenon, you can hear about it everywhere and is remarkable for both narrative and visual aspects.

I remember being told that three years after the movie came out the two main public network chains of the country: Televisa and TV Azteca, had tough and long negotiations with Fox to broadcast the film on Christmas. At the end, in an unique and surprising ending, both chains made an agreement to offer the James Cameron success the same day at the same time, is speculated was one of the most expensive agreements in mexican TV history (over $2M USD each) and spots were as expensive as if it was a soccer game. Since that December 25th, 2000 became a tradition to see Titanic on Christmas night, just after seeing other typical classics like Home Alone (1&2) and Jingle All The Way. Then other such as Grinch, Polar Express and Nightmare Before Christmas joined the club.

Anyway, being #1 all-time in adm for over 10 years and legging towards an over 10x multi from OW is enough to call it one of biggest events on mexican BO

Guys...

We can lock Coco's record going down

And we'll have to wait a few days more but i think $60M+ USD look healthy too, may give a run to Avengers as highest grosser ever in USD.

Shame Disney is sacrificing late legs in exchange for Solo's screens.

MAY 04-06 WEEKEND. A FEW DAYS TO INFINITY WAR TO TAKE THE ALL-TIME THRONE. HOLDOVERS BENEFIT FROM HOLIDAYS AND WES ANDERSON SHOWS HIS POWER ON LIMITED RELEASE FOR ISLE OF DOGS.

Avengers: Infinity War

Second highest grossing movie ever and second best seller all-time.

- Same drop as Civil War, however this was boosted by the huge Mon-Tue numbers last week.

- Should pass $1B between thursday and friday and then pass Coco ($1.1B) on Deadpool 2 weekend.

- ER is hurting its $60M+ USD chances but is a number still doable

- The admissions spot is really harder to get, it's still 6M away and with $200M+ coming won't be enough to claim that record from Coco. Although is locked to be the 2nd movie ever to cross the 20M admissions milestone.

Rampage

- Passed PR:U to become the fourth highest 2018 grosser behind IW, BP and SoW.

Isle of Dogs

Best PSA of the Top 10 scoring 33% more than IW; the second best PSA. Also, average ticket price is higher compared to any movie of the chart, understandable since it only plays on exclusive zones and in premium formats.

A Quiet Place

- At the end, is finishing very close to Split, one of the best sleeper hits in recent months.
