IMAX is also benefiting from the diversity of its slate across multiple local titles. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is at $800K in the format internationally with 33 screens coming on line this week in Germany, India, Indonesia and Dominican Republic. China’s New Gods: Yang Jian did $1.75M in IMAX this weekend, though it shared the network’s screens with Minions (which did $380K in China IMAX. One Piece Film: Red has also been a big breakout for IMAX in Japan with $4.3M to date, the 6th highest-grossing local title ever for the format in the market. Overseas, Super Hero stands at $50.7M, for an $81.4M global total – excluding Japan.

Adding $18.5M (Japan) — $99.9M WW

That can't be right. It was at $12 million overseas last Sunday so how could it be at $50.7 million now?

That must include Japan and even then without it then it's be at $32.2 million. It made $20 million in a week?

Where's the source?

Nah, Japan isn't included because Sony didn't distributed the film in Japan — Indirectly, they don't know what ER, distributor in Japan, Toei is using for Super Heroes.

Let's see deadline breakdown later..

Can you tell me where you got that number from please so I can have a read.

There's surely no way it could have grossed an additional $38 million from Monday to Sunday like that.

Edit: Its almost surely $50.7 million with US included.

Making it be $20 million outside of US and Japan. Worldwide will be $69.2 million.

Having a ball

Last weekend’s top film, Sony Pictures / Crunchyroll anime Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, started with $21.1M, on the higher end of pre-release projections.

In its second frame, it falls -78% to $4.5M and fifth place.

Compared to other recent anime titles, that’s even steeper than the “already steep” sophomore frame drops of:

  • 2019’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly (-69%)
  • 2021’s Demon Slayer: Mugen Train (-71%)
  • March’s Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie (-75%)

Overseas, Super Hero stands at $50.7M, for an $81.4M global total – excluding Japan.

Major markets still to release include Germany on August 30, Spain on September 2, South Korea on September 15, Italy on September 29, and France on October 5.

Yeah...so $50.7 million plus the $30.7 million US would make $81.4 million...but it just can't be right.

So it would have made $12 million between the Thursday to Sunday last week....and then $38.7 million between Monday to Sunday this week? Without any openers at that?

No chance. I'd say because of the .7 in the overseas gross and also the domestic gross that it's at $50.7 million including the $30.7 million. So it would have done $8 million between Monday to Sunday instead which is realistic.

Last week the global start of $32.1 million included everywhere but Japan so it's probably $50.7 million without Japan now and that's sites added US on top when it shouldn't be.

Comscore

Domestic - $30.76 million

Overseas - $18.9 million

Worldwide - $49.66 million

They specifically say it doesn't count Japan. That's not $50.7 million either. So why the difference?

It made like $19M just in Japan so it's more than $49.66M. $81M including Japan seems more accurate.

That 49M isn't including japan. It's likely going to be about 68M with Japan. Small differences between reports, but they will mostly lead here. It's what makes sense based on the number the film was at last week.
