hmm thinking more clearly about this...

This might be another bomb like Strange World if they can't give the audience a nice hook for the story.

I think it has an advantage over Strange World simply by being a Disney Princess Musical.

probably that. But Strange World proves the bottom is very far down.

The barebones marketing for Strange World was a clear sign that Disney had no faith in it. Besides, Sci-Fi Animation seems to be box poison in general (Treasure Planet, The Iron Giant, Mars Needs Moms).

The hook will most likely be the cameos and references the film will be absolutely filled with. And since nostalgia is quite powerful these days, that's a pretty damn good hook imo.

This has potential to be huge.

- Making a movie about the actual wishing star that has been in countless folklores and fairytales around the world is an interesting concept and has never been done before.

- People have been wanting a Black Disney Princess that doesn't turn into a frog for most of the movie. (I actually see this a lot)

- That goat character already looks very cute (aka marketable for kids) and the location and aesthetics so far are also very attractive and intriguing.

- Disney Princess musicals have always been Disney animation's forte and it's what their known for.

- People have been missing hand-drawn 2D animation for years and while that watercolor animation style blended with the 3D animation might not be the thing they're looking for, it's something new and could be interesting.

- Having the subject of their most iconic song be the center of their 100th anniversary movie is cute.

Let's just hope they delay the Disney+ release or something like that to start encouraging the audience to actually go to theaters for animated films and not just wait for the streaming release.

Ummm, you didn't watch Puss in Boots 2, did you?  Not only was this done, but it will have been done less than 12 months before this movie in a spectacularly critically and audience approved way...

Given that post was made the morning of the day it was released in the US, they probably had not yet.

I don't think possibly repeating Puss' themes will have any bearing on how this movie does though, it's still a ways away and I'm pretty confident it's not gonna look anything like a copycat (no pun intended)
