On the other hand Deadline is once again ironically looking quite reasonable

I wouldn't say $90+ million for the 4-day is the bare minimum, but I would say it's a reasonable expectation to be in the neighborhood of $90M. Bare minimum implies that it cannot go lower, but I think it could end up around $80-85M. Stick the range at $75M to $100M for now.

Usually, yes.  But the more “allowable” exceptions are when a film goes way outside the bounds of expectations, and people are scrambling to recalibrate. Like making a TGM over $700M club after those first weekday numbers (or an A2 under $500M one now)

I have listened.

All of this makes me wonder how on Earth NWH and TGM did as well as they did.

They pulled out "never goers"...not exactly the same group of never goers, but never goers just the same...

Plus, they were both 100% family pulls in the end...why they both were but Avatar doesn't seem to be is up to you to decide:)...

Whatever was shot of Avatar 4 will likely be included as bonus material for the inevitable trilogy boxset. Yes, I said trilogy, because frankly I no longer see this story continuing past the third film. What a shame.

Avatar 4 is entirely shot. No matter what happens the only one they could possibly scrap as of right now is 5.

I need to share...

Twitter isn’t reality, far from it, but I do think that the kind of reception of it on there with younger people doesn’t bode great for its legs in regards to that demo.

Concept and/or quality. I find concept sells more than anything in the current era of box office. Concept applied to NWH. Top Gun is more of a total mystery and surprise, but quality definitely applies to that one. When audiences watch a trailer or featurettes and see the quality, they'll make it a priority.

Though Way of Water has the quality going for it so I don't know. Clearly the concept isn't quite interesting enough to reach NWH/Too Gun levels.

Top Gun Maverick was so, ugh, not that great. It really wasn't. Now that may be because I am not a military person. I support the military, but I don't understand the logistics. Of course, I never cared one bit about the original.

I guess Spidey being one of the top 3 superheroes in history (the other two being Batman and Superman) makes sense. It was his Endgame of sorts. But TGM-I will never understand fully.
