The Last Of Us - universal acclaim!

Recommended Posts

Anyone else really pumped for this show? The game is one of the greatest ever made, and its sequel Last of Us Part II is probably one of my favorite stories in any medium in the past ten years.

It looks like this season has completely shattered the glass ceiling for video games and is standing at an amazing 96% on RT with an 8.8 avg rating and an 84 on Metacritic. The potential for this series is absolutely massive, and this looks to end up being an absolute gamechanger.

I have played through both games several times and am reasonably excited. The reviews are strong and that's nice, though part of me is unsure if I want to see this story played out after having just completing the first game yet again recently. Playing through it, it really made it apparent to me that Part 2 was considerably better in most respects. I'm more curious for that part. There's another thread but I don't know there only can be one thread per show or what not

i love the games but i'm more excited because it's mazin's follow-up to chernobyl than it being an adaptation of the game itself. nice to see pascal getting good notices for this, was worried when he was cast because i've never seen him in a role with this much pathos.

It's insane. I never touched a PlayStation between the ages of 9 and 27 until Covid happened and played this game and its sequel. Holy fucking shit, it's incredible.

It’s probably the best story told in a video game. Mind you, that bar is in the fucking gutter. The most praised video game narratives tend to be clunky, overwritten, lore-stuffed, poorly acted messes. I love video games but the idea anyone can praise stuff like Halo, Gears, Final Fantasy, and The Witcher for their storytelling and dialogue is absolute insanity. TLOU showcased that it is possible to present an accessible, mainstream, and cohesive story within an action game.

Sony’s first-party exclusives have all gone on to replicate the idea of blending high-end graphics, character, story, and accessible gameplay. If you ever get back into gaming I’d start there.

I got out of video games around the same time and as a result never bought a PS3-Wii-360. Playing this and GTAV on a borrowed PS4 pulled me right back in. If you like this kind of story focused games it's possibly the best ever made.

Incredible, love everything Mazin and co have added (especially in the opening). The layers of complexity within the characters continue to be the strength of The Last of Us.

I was at arms length a little bit with emotional investment, couldn't quite get the game of my head but it's slowly shaking off.

It's unbelievably faithful while also being expansive.

Its... fine?  I really don't see what people love about this story so much so far because it feels very similar to other zombie apocalypses.  And I really hope the actress that plays the kid they're escorting for reasons isn't annoying all season because I think that may be a miscast.

With the game I think most people accepted the premise was done to death but it was really good at utilising gameplay to create an emotional connection between the two leads, essentially doing something film never could. Without that interactivity then yeah… it’s a pretty bog-standard zombie story, albeit with a memorable ending.

Early days of course, but for all the good reviews this might, more than any video game adaptation, actually show what an uphill battle the whole endeavour is. Like, this is as good as it gets and it’s still not as good.

The opening scene to this was such a cool addition. The rest of the show was pretty good but I'd still prefer playing the game to watching this. Mainly excited about getting my friends (who have never played the game) to watch this. My only qualm is that the game looks more cinematic than this. And NO SPORES

The 2nd game was such a wild experience. Probably one of the most heartbreaking stories I've seen on any medium. I feel like there's an epic quality to it that I simply can't see be translated to something with the style of this show.
