Here is the top 10 from last weekend.

Last weekend was inflated due to Liberation Day so the drops aren't so good this week, as can be seen. Overall, this was a pretty good weekend with 3 movies over 10k admissions in what should be probably the closest top 3 I ever seen - the difference between gold and bronze is less than 500 BGN.

Creed III had the second best drop in the top 10 and it held quite well given the bigger than expected competition. It's now the highest grossing movie in the Rocky franchise and during the week it should become the most attended one as well. I see a final total of at least 60k admissions and 750k BGN.

Of course, the new local movie - Chalga, that looks as bad as it can be, had a great debut. Unless it's super frontloaded, standard legs should carry it above 50k admissions and 675k BGN.

Scream VI is continuing the trend started by Creed with doubling past entries. It had an astounding debut for the type of movie it is and should easily outgross all of the past movies combined (full chart below - unfortunately, I don't have any data for Scream 3). I see a final total around 40k admissions and 470k BGN.

Scream 7 395 77 972 BGN 24 842 244 393 BGN

The Amazing Maurice had an expected debut and should land somewhere around 25k admissions and 300k BGN.

Mummies plummeted given the animated movie in town. It should end up around 25k admissions and 300k BGN. as well.

The other local movie in the top 10 - Trust Game, did not hold that well in the face of direct competition. It should end up around 35k admissions and 400k BGN.

The Way of Water had another great hold and now it seems poised to pass Titanic for the second place in the all-time admissions chart. It should end up around 475k admissions - same as the original run of Avatar.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania had another bad hold and will definitely end up with a miserable multiplier of around 2.75x. It has the worst legs for a MCU movie and should end up around 35k admissions and 510k BGN.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish had its first bad drop but it's expected given the amazing increase last week. Otherwise, it's just a 20% drop when compated to its gross from 2 weeks ago. It's nearing the end of its run and should end up around 170k admissions and 1.95M BGN.

Cocaine Bear had a so-so hold and should end up around 15k admissions and 175k BGN.

The upcoming weekend has three new entries and most likely we'll see a new movie on top. Shazam: Fury of the Gods should be able to match Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania so I expect it to pass 12k admissions and comfortably win. I expect for 65 to end up around 8k admissions which should give it a place in the top 5. Another low-tier animation is opening as well - Latte & the Magic Waterstone but I don't expect for it to pass 5k admissions.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated in the first few posts.

Here is the top 10 from last weekend.

Chalga - the latest local movie, is looking like to have a long run here. It had an amazing increase from it's opening so cannot predict how high it'll go. Based on experience, it should pass 100k admissions at least and therefore at least 1M BGN.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a terrible opening grossing half of what the first one did. It's now expected given the lackluster performance everywhere but it's still pretty bad. In the last few years, comic-book movies rarely go much beyound 3x multiplier and there is a ton of competiton in the next month. I expect a final total around 20k admissions and 275k BGN - around the same as The Suicide Squad which faced the pandemic.

Scream VI had an OK hold after the great opening - it's second weekend is around the same as the opening of the last entry so it's still pretty great. It already passed the total of Scream (2022) and I see a final total around 40k admissions and 470k BGN.

Creed III could have held a bit better but it lost most premium screens to Shazam. It's already the most successfull movie in the Rocky franchise (in both admissions and gross). I see a final total of around 60k admissions and 750k BGN.

The Amazing Maurice held OK and should land somewhere around 25k admissions and 250k-300k BGN.

65 had an attrocious debut - a true bomb here. It couldn't even pass 5k admissions which is utterly terrible, It should land somewher around 10k admissions and 150k BGN.

Mummies held OK after last week's tumble. It should end up around 25k admissions and 275k BGN. as well.

The other local movie in the top 10 - Trust Game, held OK given the direct competition at the top of the chart. It should end up around 35k admissions and 400k BGN.

The Way of Water had another great hold and it'll definitely pass Titanic for the second place in the all-time admissions chart. It has also started to trend above Avatar's original run and should pass it as well -  a truly remarkable run!

Outside of the top 10, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania collapsed with an 80% drop and should end with probably one of the worst multipliers ever in the market as far as I remember. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also is finally out of the top 10 after 13 weeks so it's amazing run is near the end.

The upcoming weekend has two new entries and most likely we'll see a new movie on top. Hopefully, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will pass 20k admissions since it's a fantasy epic and these usually do quite well here. Another low-tier animation is opening as well - My Fairy Troublemaker but I don't expect for it to pass 5k admissions.

Here is the top 10 from last weekend. Please keep in that weather was quite sunny so this is the main reason for most of the harsh drops and overall bad state of the top 10.

Dungeons & Dragons pretty much flopped here based on the kind of movie it is. This should have at least got double what it actually opened to to be considered a sort of success. I expected over 20k admissions so I'm pretty disappointed. Based on the reviews it seems like a fun film so hopefully it has great WOM and some staying power but it has the actual opening of John Wick and the week after that comes Super Mario and both should be pretty big. Right now, I'd say it may land around 30k admissions and 475k BGN - a total that should of been more like an OW so a pretty disappointing performance if it gets to it.

Chalga - the latest local movie, has topped the yearly ranking after this weekend. It had the second best drop despite the great weather but it should have still fared better given it's big increase last weekend. A total north of 1M BGN is assured, but there is a chance for it to miss 100k admissions now.

John Wick 4 had pretty good previews and hopefully next weekend it at least doubles the previews for the actual OW. If things go well, it can even go over 20k admissions.

My Fairy Trouble Maker - a new low-tier animation opened petty much as expected. It should have a short life and end around 10k admissions.

After the terrible opening Shazam! Fury of the Gods had a terrible second weekend as well. It seems that it'll end up even below 20k admissions and 275k BGN - most probably the worst performance for a major Comic-Book movie outside the pandemic in the last 20 years or so. A truly terrible run here.

Creed III had another bad drop and should end with a multiplier around 3x - it had an inflated OW so it's not that bad in the end. It's already the most successfull movie in the Rocky franchise (in both admissions and gross). I see a final total of around 60k admissions and 725k BGN.

Scream VI had a bad drop as well. However, it'll end up grossing more than all past entries combined so it's still a great success. I see a final total around 35k admissions and 400k BGN.

The Amazing Maurice did not hold that well and should land somewhere around 20k admissions and 225k BGN.

65 competes with Shazam for the most terribel performance this March. It may end up below 10k admissions which is beyond terrible for such a movie.

The Way of Water had another great hold despite the weather and has passed Titanic for the second place in the all-time admissions chart. This should have been it's last week in the top 10 but it still has one more task to fulfill. Next week it'll pass Avatar's original run -  a truly remarkable run!

The upcoming weekend has three new entries and we'll see a new movie on top. Hopefully, John Wick 4 will pass 20k admissions since the franchise increasing with each entry and the last one opened with 14k admissions. Two local movies are also opening but both should land below 5k admissions.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated in the first few posts.

On 3/27/2023 at 8:08 PM, Sophia Jane said:

Avatar 3 gonna make 500k admits here

To be honest, I believe Avatar as a franchise sort of reached the maximum potential of the market. The two films are the only ones in this millenium to go over 400k admissions and the market isn't really growing in admissions for the last 10 years or so. The population is also decreasing so even if Avatar 3 manages to pass 400k admissions again it'll be a huge success.

I've been busy the last 2 weeks so posting a bulk update on them.

Overall, we had two pretty good weekends for the box office. This upcoming weekend is Orthodox Easter so holds during the weekend can be great if the weather is bad but we'll need to wait to see.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a great opening this weekend but it's a bit below my expectations and in comparison to most of Europe. It was the biggest one for the year and second biggest for an animated movie since the start of the pandemic - only behind Minions 2.

However, this week is Spring Break and schools are out so hopefully this results in a bigger than expected total by the end of the holidays. On top of that April is pretty empty so it should have some staying power.

Unless it shows some amazing legs, it should land somewhere around 125k-150k admissions and 1.5M BGN - 1.8M BGN which should probably allow it to take the yearly crown as the biggest animation.

John Wick 4 had a good offical opening after the week of previews and an OK hold in it's second weekend. It's already the highest grosser of the franchise and after the holidays it should be the most attended one as well. I expect a final total around 80k admissions and 1M BGN.

John Wick: Chapter 4 17 808 241 326 лв. 52 450 704 203 лв.

Chalga - the latest local sensation, has topped 1M BGN in gross and it seems that it should be able to pass 100k admissions as well after the nice holds the last 2 weeks. A remarkable performance for what seems to be a truly terrible film but the local tastes are something else.

After the awful opening weekend Dungeons & Dragons is showing some staying power and already reached a 3x multiplier. Based on it's performance during the holidays it may end up around 40k admissions and 500k BGN which will be an OK result after the small debut.

Air had an unremarkable opening but it was never expected for it to be anything else. It should land around 10k admissions which is expected for such a movie.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is keeping in line with its terrible performance here. It won't be able to pass 20k admissions which is absolutely atrocious for a big budget Comic-Book movie.

Creed III managed to pass 60k admissions and 725k BGN and won't go much higher since it's out of top 10 next week.

Scream VI will land around 35k admissions and 400k BGN which is great for the franchise.

After leaving the top 10 The Way of Water managed to sneak back in one last time before the end of its run. It has officiallly passed 475k admissions and Avatar's original run.

The upcoming weekend has three new entries and we'll definitely not see a new movie on top - probably Super Mario will be on top until Guardans of the Galaxy opens next month.

All three openers should land somewhere between 5k-10k admissions. We have Renfield, Beautiful Disaster and a low-tier European animation. Nicolas Cage is quite popular here so at the moment I give the edge to the Dracula movie but Beautiful Disaster seems to be by the same team that is behind the After franchise which is popular here so it has a chance to outgross it.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated in the first few posts.

Here is the top 10 from the last weekend.

Overall, it was a terrible weekend for moviegoing and this is expected for a sunny weekend on Easter. Hopefully, we'll see some niced holds this upcoming weekend to compensate for the awful drops.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a somewaht decent hold for a family movie - the rest of the genre practically disapppeared this weekend. It also had a pretty big week, thanks to the Spring Break. However, unless it start holding really well it may not reach my initial prediction of around 125k-150k admissions and 1.5M BGN-1.8M BGN. It's hold in the next few day will give us a better picture where it's heading.

Beautiful Disaster had an OK opening. I expect a final total around 15k-20k admissions and 200k-250k BGN.

John Wick 4 had an OK drop given the circumstances and it made decent progress during the week. I expect a final total around 80k admissions and 1.1M BGN.

Dungeons & Dragons is continuing to show some staying power and is nearing a 4x multiplier. However, it seems to be losing most of its showtimess to the new releases so I don't think it'll have enough gas in the tank to pass 40k admissions and 500k BGN.

Chalga - the latest local sensation, had a terrible drop but it lost a ton of showtimes. It still should be able to pass the 100k admission mark before it's out of theaters.

Air held OK and should pass 10k admission in the end.

Renfield bombed pretty bad which I didn't expect, to be honest. It should land below 10k admissions which is awful for a Nic Cage movie here.

Air had an unremarkable opening but it was never expected for it to be anything else. It should land around 10k admissions which is expected for such a movie.

The upcoming weekend has five new entries and even if Mario dropped pretty hard I still expect for it to keep the first place.

Evil Dead Rise looks to be the top performer and should hopefully pass 5k admissions. The other Hollywood release is Mafia Mamma which should be below 5k admissions, same as the 2 new local movies and Suzume.

Here is the top 10 from the last weekend.

Overall almost all of the openers overperformed and Mario held pretty well so the weekend ended up on the bright side.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a pretty good drop after the Easter deflated weekend. It also had another big midweek so it managed to pass 1M BGN and next week it should pass 100k admission as well. It seems to be stabilizing now so I'm hopeful that it can end up around 130k admission and 1.5M BGN.

Evil Dead Rise had a great debut for a horror movie and should end up around 25-30k admissions and 300-400k BGN which will be a nice total for it.

The first of the two new local movies - Murda Boyz (a production from a local rap group) totally surprised me with passing 5k admissions in its opening. It looks utterly abominable based on the trailer but this rarely matters here so unless it's fully fan-driven it should end up around 15-20k admissions and 300k BGN.

Mafia Mamma - the new Toni Collette/Monica Bellucci movie, had a nice opening as well. I see a final total around 15-20k admissions and 300k BGN for it as well.

Beautiful Disaster held well and should land somewhere around 25-30k admissions and 300-350k BGN.

John Wick 4 had an bad drop given the deflated Easter weekend but had a pretty good midweek. Next week it'll pass 1M BGN  and should end up around 80k admissions and 1.1M BGN - twice as much as part 3 (in gross).

Suzume is a nice surprise since it's quite niche but managed to pass 2k admissions. It'll still land below 10k admissions but maybe in the next few year the anime genre may have a larger following here.

The second new local movie - The Art of Falling Down, opened a bit below my low expectations but it should have better legs and may end up around 10k admissions which is fine for an indie local movie.

Dungeons & Dragons is losing a lot of screens but now has a 4x multiplier which is great given the March bloodbath. It should end up just below 40k admissions and 500k BGN.

Chalga - the latest local sensation,is now fading out butl should be able to pass the 100k admission mark before it's out of theaters.

The upcoming weekend has two new entries - The Pope's Exorcist and a low-tier European animation.

Russell Crowe is quite popular here so I expect The Pope's Exorcist to at least match Evil Dead Rise's opening. The other opener should end up around 5k admission or so.

Super Mario will need a pretty good drop to hold the top spot unless the Crowe's fans don't show up.

Can you run a check to Pokemon Titles like Pokemon The First Movie &Miyazaki Films like Spirited Away &Dragon Ball Super Broly? I believe they did better numbers in Europe

Anime movies rarely have a proper release here so based on the data I have there wasn't a release for any of the above. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero ended up with 3.8k admissions and 40k BGN last year and One Piece Film: Red had a release last December but no official data came up.

When it comes to live-action adaptations, Detective Pikachu managed 44k admissions and 420k BGN back in 2019. Alita fared a bit better with 61k admissions and 710k BGN.

Otherwise, Pokemon was quite popular in the early 2000s but the movies were only released on DVD/VHS. Yu-Gi-Oh and Beyblade had their share of popularity in the years after but that's pretty much it with the general population. Some of the Studio Ghibli films are also well known (e.g. Spirited Away, Totoro, Princess Mononoke) but again they were released on home media or played on TV.

Here is the top 10 from the last weekend.

Overall we saw some nice holds for the holdovers and both openers underperformed.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie keeps holding steady but nothing extraordinary when compared to the worlwide trends. It has finally passed 100k admissions which is a nice achievement and should keep the yearly crown until Fast X opens later this month.  It's the only major kids movie until The Little Mermaid so it should have strong holds in the coming weeks and end up around 130k admission and 1.5M BGN.

The Pope's Exorcist opened below Evil Dead Rise which I did not expect, to be honest. It should end up somewhere around 15-20k admissions and 200-250k BGN.

Evil Dead Rise had an OK drop given the direct competition and should end up over 30k admissions and 350k BGN which will be a nice total for it.

Mafia Mamma had an amazing hold and now has a real chance to end up above 20k admissions and 300k BGN.

John Wick 4 with the second best hold in the top 10 which is helped a lot by the return to IMAX. It managed to pass 1M BGN  and should end up around 82k admissions and 1.1M BGN - twice as much as part 3 (in gross).

Murda Boyz (a production from a local rap group) had a disastrous second weekend but this was expected due to fan rush. It should end up around 15k admissions and 200k BGN which is 10 times more of what I expected given the trailer.

Beautiful Disaster held OK and should land somewhere around 25k admissions and 275k BGN.

Chalga - the latest local sensation, managed an increase this weekend which helped it go above the 100k admissions. This week it lost the yearly crown in gross to Mario and next week the plumber will top it in admissions as well. However, the total is nothing short of amazing so the producers should be quite happy.

Suzume held OK and should manage to pass 5k admissions which is quite good for an anime here.

The upcoming weekend has two new wide entries - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and Chalice of Blood, The (Verimalja).

The next entry in the MCU will defintely end Super Mario's reign at the top of the charts. However, it remains to be seen if it'll manage a descent debut. I expect it to land somewhere in the 20-30k admissions zone, which will be in line with mid-tier MCU films here. The other opener should end up below the 5k admissions mark.

Here is the top 10 from the last weekend.

Overall it was far from the best weekend to go to the movies since it was quite sunny and was one of the biggest local holidays. Hopefully, next weekend we'll see some rebounds since it seems to be raining and nothing major opens before Fast X.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debuted on top but with a mediocre opening. Including the previews it managed to beat the previous installments in gross but Vol. 2 still has the most attended opening. Unfortunately, even if it has great WOM I doubt it can have a multiplier better than 4x which means around 60k admssions and 1M BGN is the absolute ceiling for it. While the gross end up OK due to inflated ticket prices the admissions number is nothing special. Below you can find charts for the franchise and the MCU as a whole.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie tumbled as well as the rest of the top 10 (excluding Mafia Mamma). If it rebouds it can get around 120k admissions and 1.4M BGN which will be quite good but below my intitial expectations for it.

The Pope's Exorcist should end up around 20k admissions and 225k BGN.

Mafia Mamma had the best hold this weekend so it seems to be experiencing amazin WOM. It should definitely pass 20k admissions and 250k BGN.

Evil Dead Rise still can reach 30k admissions and 350k BGN if it rebounds a bit.

John Wick 4 lost the premium screens again and tumbled as well. However, it should end up around 82k admissions and 1.1M BGN - twice as much as part 3 (in gross).

The upcoming weekend has three new wide entries - HypnoticLove Again and Book Club: The Next Chapter. It's the calm before the storm since Fast X should be pretty big.

If Guardians doesn't hold that well or the new Ben Afflec thriller overperforms we may have a new leader. At the moment, I believe the comic-book movie should keep the top spot with a pretty good drop to compensate the not so great opening. The other two openeners should be below 5k admissions.

Here is the top 10 from last weekend.

Overall, we saw some nice holds and even increases after the disastrous weekend before. The openers were nothing special but Fast X should make things rather interesting next week.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a great drop after last week's underperformance. It's already passed Quantumania and unless it collapses in the wake of Fast X it should be able to at least pass Vol. 2 in admissions. It shouldn't have any difficulties in passing both of the previous installments in gross due to the huge inflation. For the moment, I'd say it can reach 70k admissions and 1M BGN but let's see it's hold next week.

Hypnotic had a so-so debut since it had quite a lot of marketing here. It should end up around 15k admission since I expect it to collapse in the face of Fast X.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie managed to increase 33% which is great and gives it a chance again to flirt with 130k admissions. Now it should definetly pass 1.5M BGN and become the highest grossing video-game adaptation here (see charts below). Of course, it has not chance to pass Prince of Persia in admissions.

Book Club: The Next Chapter lost half of it's audience in the OW when compared to the original. However, due to inflation the gross is the same. The first part opened during the summer so this one should definitely end up with a multiplier much below 7x so it's unlikely for it do much more than 5k admissions.

The Pope's Exorcist should end up around 20k admissions.

Love Again bombed here as well. It should end up below 5k admissions.

Mafia Mamma should end up around 23k admissions.

Evil Dead Rise is losing steam so most likely it'll end up a bit below the 30k admissions mark.

John Wick 4 is nearing the end of it's run but should be able to reach 82k admissions.

The upcoming weekend has two new wide entries - Fast X and Boonie Bears: Back to Earth.

F9 opened with just about 50k admissions while COVID restrictions were still on so this should at least match that to be considered a success. However, the previous installment also had little competition so it managed some decent legs. Therefore, this one should open bigger to match it's admissions unless it has incredible WOM.

The other new release is a low-tier animation and should be below 5k admissions.

Based on the past performances in the franchise, it should reach a 3x multiplier at least. This should lead in final total around 200k admissions and 3M BGN but we'll need to see it's hold next week to have a better perspective. Anyway, I don't see it missing Furious 7 gross so it should beat it and become the highest grosser of the franchise. However, it has no chance to beat it in admissions but it should beat F9.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 plummeted in the face of the Fast family. It may stabilize and reach 60k admissions but it'll be hard after such a big drop. It's quite unfortunate since the film has great WOM here.

Hypnotic held decently and should end up around 15k admissions.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie also had an OK hold and still has a chance to flirt with 130k admissions.

Book Club: The Next Chapter had the best drop in the top 10, which was expected since it doesn't share almost any audience with Fast X. Still, it's a terrible performance when compared to the original and should end up below 10k admissions.

The rest of the top 10 is pretty much dead so nothing to see there.

The upcoming weekend has 3 new wide entries - The Little MermaindAbout My Father and Knights of the Zodiac.

The Little Mermaid is a total wild card here - to me it's perfectly reasonable for it to bomb with an opening below 10k admissions or to blow up with at an opening above 30k admissions. The race change for Ariel is a big talking point here so I'm leaning on the bombing side but hopefully my fellow countrymen surprise me and this can get to the usual standards for these useless Live-Action remakes.

About My Father should land somewhere in the 5k-10k range and Knights of the Zodiac will most likely bomb below 5k admissions.

Fast X should keep the top spot unless The Little Mermaid surprises.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated.

Here is the top 10 from last weekend.

Fast X had a terrible drop after the great opening. It still achieved the 10th biggest second weekend in gross but a 60% drop here is much worse than in the USA. However, it had a pretty nice weekly gain so the total is alright for now. If it can stabilize in the next few weeks it should still reach 200k admissions but 3M BGN may be missed.

The Little Mermaid underpeformed here when compared to the rest of the more popular Disney Live-Action remakes but at least it didn't bomb. In reality the race swap for Ariel definitely played a role here since it should have been opening with at least 30k admissions - the animation is quite popular here, around the same level as the other 90s hits. If it can manage standard legs for the brand, it should reach 70k admissions and 800k BGN which will be a so-so performance.

About My Father and Knights of the Zodiac totally bombed here. While this was totally expected for the latter, the Robert De Niro movie should have trippled this opening since his movies are always doing pretty good here. No idea why this bombed so hard.

Nothing special is happening with the rest of the top 10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie won't be able to catch a break after being destroyed by Fast X so they most likely won't reach 60k and 130k admissions respectively.

The upcoming weekend has 2 new wide entries - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Boogeyman. I really hope that Spidey can breakout since the first one was amazing. However, it didn't gross much here so anything above 15k admissions for the second part should be considered pretty good. The Boogeyman has effective trailers so perhaps it can match Evil Dead Rise and opend around 10k admissions.

Fast X should manage a third week on top unless it has another bad drop and The Little Mermaid should be above the new horror movie to save some face.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated.

Here is the top 10 from last weekend.

It was rainy in most of the country during the weekend and it seems this helped the family movies.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had a pretty good opening - it doubled the previous movie in gross and nearly doubled it in admissions as well. Hopefully, it can hold well in the next few weeks despite the upcoming competition. For now, I'd say it reaches around a 4x multiplier so a total around 60k admissions and 800k BGN is the goal.

Fast X had another terrible drop and is turning out to be pretty front-loaded. It still has good midweek gains so 200k admissions are still on the horizon but 3M BGN seems like a dream now. However, it should be able to pass Furious 7 in gross to become the highest grossing movie in the franchise but it'll end up in 4th place in admissions.

The Little Mermaid had a great drop after the not so great opening. It's midweek gains were also quite good with the help of Children's Day on June 1st. It's 2 week multiplier is better than Aladdin's remake so it's holding really well. Assuming it can keep the good holds a final total around 90k admissions and 1M BGN may be on the cards which will be a nice total despite the controversy but still far behind the other 90s remakes.

The Boogeyman had a nice opening and if it has the standard horror summer legs it should reach around 30k admissions and 400k BGN.

Nothing special is happening with the rest of the top 10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie should fall a bit short from 60k and 130k admissions respectively.

The upcoming weekend has 1 new wide entry - Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. It should be able to pass 10k admissions so a new number 1 is pretty much a lock. The franchise is steeply decreasing here after the 4th entry but maybe this one can buck the trend and stabilize a bit.

Otherwise, if the weater turns out to be rainy again then the family movies should see some nice holds which should help Across the Spider-Verse and The Little Mermaid.

We rarely have big breakouts in June so the next few weeks shouldn't see anything out of this world. Hopefully, The Flash surprises us but if not I don't anything passing 20k admissions in its opening until Indiana Jones at the end of the month.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated.

Here are the charts from the last 3 weeks.

Last weekend was one of the worst I remember outside of COVID times. Nothing of interest opened and still everything dropped like a rock. It seems that there are a few factors for the disastrous result - the sunny weather, the fact that going to the cinema is now a luxury and of course the main thing here is that nothing took the interest of the general audience.

Avatar: The Way of Water proved that people are still open to going to the cinema but they'll only go in droves for an event. From the start of year till now only 3 films got past 100k admissions and only 9 got past 50k admissions. This is really bad for the market and it shows that moviegoind habbits have changed a lot. Even the 2 films on top did worse than expected - Fast X will end up 15k admissions above the previous entry despite it being released during COVID and Super Mario should have gotten at least 150k admissions.

2023 - Top 10:

# Title Admissions
1 Fast X 199 561
2 Super Mario Bros. Movie, The 128 893
3 Чалга 107 818
4 John Wick: Chapter 4 81 844
5 Little Mermaid, The 68 185
6 Creed III 61 625
7 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 58 222
8 Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre 57 069
9 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 51 547
10 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 38 026

It seems that going to the cinema is a no-go this summer but let's see if any of the upcoming releases can change things up. July's lineup is stronger on paper and Indy is yet to come so hopefully the box office picks up.

Now to the individual performances.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is doing pretty bad since it'll probably end up as the lowest in attendance in the franchise. It's losing a lot screens now so I don't see how it'll go past 40k admissions.

Elemental had a pretty good opening but totally collapsed last weekend. I really hope that it can recover but right now I don't see how it'll reach much more than 50k admissions. Still, this is an OK result for PIXAR here since it's far from the most successfull antimation house in the market.

The Flash is one for the ages - it totally bombed and may end up even below Shazam 2 which was one of the biggest CBM bombs here as a whole. It'll also end up below The Suicide Squad which was released during COVID and was on HBO MAX at the same day.

No Hard Feelings opened a bit below my expectations but it may still get some legs. Still, it most probably won't pass 20k admissions which isn't good.

Ateroid City bombed but it was expected. At least it's good that these type of movies can get a wide release from time to time.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was doing pretty well until the disastrous weekend we just had. Unless it recovers in spectacular fashion it'll end up around 60k admissions. Nevertheless, it should end up as the second biggest June release since I really don't see a chance for Indy to go below that mark.

The Boogeyman is holding alright and should end up near 30k admissions.

The upcoming weekend has 2 new wide entries - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. Indy should top 30k admissions to not be considered a disappointment and Ruby Gilman should crack 10k admissions to be a success.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated.

Wow this did... surprisingly well in Bulgaria, huh?

Yep, but Disney+ is not dubbed or subtitled here and there is no official distributor for Disney when it comes to home media. So the cinema is pretty much the only way to watch the dubbed version of their latest animations. The dubbed pirated versions rarely appear in less than 6 months after the original release.

Nevertheless, Turning Red did better than expected. Having such a cute character on the posters definitely helped as well since it started with a pretty good opening.

Here are the charts from the last month.

The last month was quite underwhelming at the local box office but thanks to Barbenheimer some much needed life was given to it. We just had one of the most attended weekends as a whole in the last 20 years and both films totally blew all expectations.

As I mentioned in my last review of the box office here the general audience will still go to the cinema but they'll do it for an event. The combined attendance of the two openers is the best OW since COVID started moving just ahead the debut of Fast X (without the previews, of course).

Almost all of the remaining premiers in the last month debuted well below expectations but I'll get to them in a bit.

Barbie had one of the best July debuts and probably the best opening for a live-action comedy movie (outside Deadpool). It remains to be seen how frontloaded the premiere was but due to huge total attendance I expect that there will be a lot of spillover for the next few weeks and it should reach at least a 4x multiplier. If everything goes well it can also reach a 5x multiplier, which is what I would have expected if it didn't open almost 4 times greater than my prediction a few weeks ago. For now, I'll put the final range as 150-200k admissions and 1.8M-2.3M BGN.

Oppenheimer had the second most attended debut not on number one - as far as I could see only Sherlock Homes managed to outdo it but that was on Christmas (the most lucrative release season). If we're talking about pure gross it defintely had the best debut not at first place. It also blew every other Nolan OW out of the water - in both attendance and gross. It may be frontloaded due to whole Barbenheimer trend but since it's summer and it's a Nolan movie it has a high chance to go well beyond a 5x multiplier. For now, I'll put the final range as 130-170k admissions and 1.8M-2.3M BGN.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning - Part One is having a disastrous performance. It had the worst known debut in the franchise when talking about admissions and it should end up as the second or thirf least attended film in the series. Right now, it's looking at a final total around 60k admissions and 900k BGN - a significant underperfomance but this seems to be the trend for long-running franchises this summer.

Insidious: The Red Door is having a nice little run - nothing spectacular but a grat overperfomance when compared to the other installments. Only the second and fourth films were released in cinemas here and it's already outdid them combined. It should end up around 20k admissions and 240k BGN.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny also underperformed here but when compared to the other big budget franchises it's not so bad. It still has a chance to pass 100k admissions but this is still 30k admission below Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. However, it has already passed it in gross due to the huge inflation when compared to 2008. It should end up around 100k admissions and 1.25M BGN.

Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken had the chance to give The Flash a run for the biggest bomb this summer but due to some spectacular legs it may even surpass it at the end. This is still a terrible performance for a DreamWorks movie here even if it gets above the 20k admissions mark.

When we talk about bombs here, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is another strong contender. It'll end up as the least attended film in the series which I totally didn't expect at the start of the summer.

Elemental is holding pretty great after the lackluster sophomore weekend. It doesn't have any direct competition for 2 more weeks so it has a chance to go near 70k admissions if it doesn't get buried when TMNT opens.

The Flash is defintely the bomb of the year so far. It managed to pass 20k admissions but this should have been what it opened to given all the promotion. A truly terrible performance without any saving grace.

No Hard Feelings managed a decent multiplier and passed 15k admissions.

Ateroid City couldn't pass the 5k admissions mark.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had some nice hold in the last month and managed to pass the 60k admissions mark. Nevertheless, it ended up as the second biggest June release and still doubled the first movie in gross.

Fast X managed to pass the 200k admissions and also passed Furios 7 in gross to become the highest grosser in the long running series. When compared to other long-running franchises is quite good but it has a really unremarkable run after the great OW. It'll also most likely win the year in both admissions and gross unless something truly surprises or Barbie/Oppenheimer develop spectacular legs. Otherwise, the only movie I see with a chance to beat it is Aquaman 2.

The Little Mermaid had a good last month in cinemas and managed to pass the 70k admissions mark. However, it'll fall short of all of 90s remakes (except Mulan but it was duirng COVID).

The Boogeyman ended up just below 30k admissions - quite good for the genre.

The upcoming weekend has 2 new wide entries - Haunted Mansion and Talk to Me. The Disney film should end up near 10k admissions and I expect the new horror entry to end up around 5k admissions. The battle for the top spot will be fiercely fought between Barbie and Oppenheimer.

P.S. All the relevant charts have been updated.
