This was good but a bit difficult to truly embrace for me. It definitely has that "filmed version of a stage play" feel to it since a lot of it takes place in one location, even though it was really based on a book instead. And I think Sarah Polley's decision to desaturate the color ends up being more of a gimmick than something that adds to the experience. I get what she was trying to go for but don't think it entirely works. But the material is certainly compelling, and the cast is terrific all around. I wouldn't call anyone a standout but all contribute strong work and bring their characters to life despite not having much to work with in terms of actual character development. Overall, I felt the same way about this as I did the 2022's other #MeToo themed movie (She Said): it's a solid film about this topic but lacking something special that would elevate it to a truly powerful motion picture.
