I have never seen E.T.

Does the film still hold up today?

In terms of direction, script, cinematography and music (arguably John Williams' best score) it blows away any blockbuster made today.

The E.T. puppet is even better than Yoda from ESB when it comes to facial emoting. (The CGI E.T. done for the 20th anniversary is completely cartoonish by comparison).

The only negative for me when I watched it recently was when E.T. gets sick, Spielberg drags that scene out and act two crawls to a close.  But then act three roars back triumphantly!

Top five Spielberg alongside JAWS, RAIDERS, SCHINDLER'S LIST and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.

No... Don't waste your valuable time. If you want to see blockbuster Spielberg then watch Jurassic Park again & again but not E.T. It's so mediocre of a movie that you would be astonished why it was so successful in the first place !!

James Cameron has done more complex and better thing with similarly benevolent alien stoty with The Abyss.

Outside of the two previews, it was a very interesting Thursday for titles in regular release, meaning 20th/Disney/Lightstorm’s Avatar: The Way of Water didn’t top the day. Instead it was Fathom’s Chosen Season 3 Finale at 1,940 theaters which led the day with $1.67M.

Avatar 2 was second with $1M, -6% from Wednesday, bringing its seventh week to $20.7M, and running total to $625.6M. Now the tenth highest grossing movie stateside of all-time, Avatar 2‘s next notch is 9th placeholder Jurassic World which counts $653.4M. The James Cameron sequel looks to make around $10M in weekend 8.

In third, it’s Trafalgar’s concert movie BTS: Yet to Come with a second day Thursday gross of $730K, -66% from its opening day Wednesday of $2.1M and running total of $2.8M.

Sony’s A Man Called Otto saw $589K Thursday, a fifth week of $9.5M and running total of $48.8M.

Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Puss in Boots: Last Wish posted $570K yesterday, a sixth week of $13.1M and running total of $143.3M.

Deadline again lowballing Avatar. Same story every week.

Oddly enough I agree with both statements. While I like ET, I don't think it stood the test of time as well as 2 other sci-fi classics which were obliterated by ET at box office when they were released, ironically enough.

So, is Chosen winning the weekend?  Or will it not roll that preview number into its weekend?
