It more has to do with James Cameron/Avatar fans being overly boisterous and hostile to anyone who isn't a part of the fanclub. This was the main issue on r/boxoffice during A2's run

I can't speak to reddit but on here people were happy and celebrating Avatar 2's 'bad' opening weekend. Did you see that thread on here?

Ant-Man and the Wasp opening is good obviously but that's the power of the Marvel brand for you. What will the legs be like though? Doctor Strange had short legs. We'll see what happens.

I'll admit i only came back 5 or 6 months ago after a long break from the site, but i havent really seen any of us Avatar fans be 'hostile' to anyone. I mean i have defended the film numerous times but i wouldnt say i have been hostile.

I mean i have had so much shit for my A2 predictions and hopes since i came back to the site,.

The amount of crap i got for my 750mil US/2,5bil WW prediciton was crazy, and in the end the film is going to make 680-690mil US, and around 2.35bil WW. And i made that 2.5bil prediction before the covid situation in China.

Me and Ironjimbo even bet our accounts when the OW estimates came in, on the film hitting 2bil WW due to the amount of celebrating on here lol.

I feel very bad for the low grosses from all F4 movies. The comic for me is the best from Marvel, but the result in box office was a complete dissaster. 
I hope one day someone make a movie from F4 making the quality they deserve.

Theres a difference between celebrating i.e. "Fuck Yeah its a failure" and those of us who kept hopes in check being amused that all of our concerns and points were valid. I.e. it was never opening over the 150m mark and I still personally over predicted with my 142, but stuck to my guns even when the data showed it obviously not getting there. 

 

The difference is you in particular, and the Avatar stans as a whole can't take valid criticism, so you feel like its a negative celebration when its not. Same issue with most of the MCU stans as well.

 

Case in point being all the angst over BPWF, when anyone without prejudice knew it would drop significantly from BP1 due to it's zeitgeist experience (same with Avatar, and TFA.)

And it speaks to the strength of the experience that A2 will end up where it is, even with a significant drop in tickets overall. Quite pleased it made it over 600, definitely higher than the 550-600 that I assumed would be a cap **due to historical data when looking at franchise behavior**

I think Kang over that number DOM for sure. OS will be interesting to see how much draw MCU can still do but I don't see a 34-66 split with China weakening so much for MCU. Something like 600/1450 IMO.

 

I am a bit lower on the marvels. Not sure on NWO until I see a trailer since not sure how much they will throw in as a draw. No idea on F4.

Kang Dynasty having a similar DOM gross to WF seems very unlikely.

 

I'd say 260/650/????

So, to get back off fan topics and back on movie topics...

 

The silver lining for the weekend - March is gonna be wide open for the taking.  10 days in, Ant Man will have very little carryover into the March box office so while we have a packed March for releases, it will allow the "best" movie to win.  If Ant Man had been the behomoth, all of those movies might have suffered, but now they'll have screen and theater space to give it their best shot...
