How much would this wrapping up in Jan/Feb fuck up the rest of 2024 and beyond? Covid level delays, or better/worse than that?

It’ll mean 6-7 months where nothing new has been filmed. Plus when it ends everyone will be jockeying for sound stages and the like and it’ll be scheduling conflicts galore as every studio wants their big projects to take precedence. It’s also coinciding with the industry pulling back in general so some stuff that never started filming and maybe even things that only just started filming will get canceled.

That Dune Part 2 delay is aging like wine right about now. 2024 schedule is gonna open up and it will have a good shot at better Oscar glory in 2024 than this year.

Plus with what is going on in the Middle East, it would probably garner all sort of takes regarding its metaphors and real world parallels that really wouldn't do the movie any favours

Can we stop with this real world shit affecting movies. Seriously.

The Bad News Friday release date delays are likely going to happen once the strike is over (which I suspect will be sooner than most are expecting at this point, both parties have nothing to gain from this lasting into the new year). At least for the movies that aren't planning to stick with their release dates and will be starting their marketing campaigns over the next few weeks as trailer attachments with the big November titles.

Really, because from the looks of things their not even going to start talking again unsil mid November, their is no way they get this don in time to promote the November releasea

Everything in November seems locked in for release at this point. At most I can see poor Next Goal Wins being delayed yet again but it's not like that movie's financial prospects are looking great at the moment between the weak reviews + no awards buzz so might as well just get it over with already.

I want to see The Bikeriders but it would've been lost in the December shuffle even without the SAG-AFTRA strike anyway. They should go for a spring or maybe even early summer release (5/31 is open and would make it timed with Father's Day so that would work) to give it the chance to stand out as a potential counterprogramming choice.

The Bikeriders just lost its December 1 release date.

So the studio either sees the strike going past November

Or they're just repositioning this for Commercial prospects, as the reviews are good, but not looking to breakthrough into awards contention

I don't think it's too much about the crowded Dec 1 window. It would probably get the 2nd highest theater count of all the Dec 1 releases, besides Renaissance.

Sag apparently is going back to work w video game publishers to get their issues with them sorted out, so that seems like it'll be something that delays AMPTP negotiations

I'm surprised they haven't gone on strike but given that SAG lost their battle with the video game industry a few years back, they probably can't hurt them in the same way.

Apparently they still plan to give it a qualifying run for awards season this year. Might be something similar to what A Man Called Otto did this year.

EXCLUSIVE: Some of Hollywood’s biggest names met with the leadership of SAG-AFTRA today to get the lowdown on the breakdown of talks with the studios and streamers last week.

George Clooney, Emma Stone, Ben Affleck, Tyler Perry and Scarlett Johansson were among a group of top talent guild members that spoke Tuesday with guild president Fran Drescher and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland for a detailed debrief, we hear.

Meeting with the guild brass via Zoom this afternoon, the Oscar winners and other A-listers were particularly interested in the revenue sharing proposals that SAG-AFTRA put before the AMPTP and the CEO Gang of Four.
