BARBIE | 809.4M overseas | 1445.6M worldwide

Recommended Posts

In South Africa, Barbie broke records for the biggest opening for a film without format since the pandemic. It also became the second biggest opening of 2023. This is a phenomenal achievement when you contrast the film's big opening weekend with those of other contemporary film releases. Testament to the overwhelming power of the Barbie brand, Margot Robbie's star power and the appeal of Gerwig's work, it's sure to maintain its momentum and continue to be a box office hit in the weeks and months to come.

Barbie (2023): R11.9 million

Fast X (2022): R9.9 million

The Batman (2022): R8.8 million

Jurassic World Dominion (2022): R8.5 million

Top Gun: Maverick (2022): R8.2 million

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022): R7.8 million

Barbie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken respectively. The actors have been in the public eye for many months with sneak peeks, trailer hype and associated press in anticipation of film's release.

Breaking down Monday, Barbie dolled up a $31.9M gross from 69 overseas markets, off a single percentage point from the record-breaking Monday.

In the Europe/Middle East/Africa region, Barbie has already surpassed the lifetime total os The Meg, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Ready Player One, Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla. In Latin America, the doll is the No. 3 Hollywood movie of 2023 after just six days.

Looking at individual markets, the UK had the biggest Tuesday ever for Warner Bros; gross to date is $34.7M.

Mexico is the next biggest market with $29.1M through Tuesday, a 16% dip versus Monday, followed by Brazil at $23M (-19% from Monday). Australia, at $17.M and 2% over Monday is next with China and France both at $13.6M, each with good holds.

Luxembourg

The global enthusiasm for "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer", since their launch last Wednesday, is also confirmed in Luxembourg. “Last week, the theaters were almost full all the time for the two films, underlines Maud Franz, marketing manager of Kinepolis Luxembourg. And given the current pre-sales, interest continues. On Monday, we totaled 12,000 visitors for “Barbie” and 9,000 for “Oppenheimer””.

France and Germany are the two main european markets when Barbie, even if with of course awesome numbers, seems less strong than in others. I  think it's cause in both countries Nolan competition has more effect.

Nolan always has been really loved in France, even with his original movies, and well in Germany WWII stories have a big appeal + Oppenheimer family was german.

Another $33M weekday overseas for #Barbie . Total reaches $294M. Absolutely insanity on weekdays in Europe & Americas. 2nd weekend should bring in ~$125M for ~$420M by SUN.

UK - $39.5M
MEX ~ $32.5M
BR ~ $25M
AUS - $18.3M
FR - $16.5M
IT - $14.2M
ESP - $13.2M
GER - $12.5M
