Okay, well The Fall Guy is pretty unsuitable locally. That was a very late arriving crowd here, however, so we'll see what it looks like at final bell.    Aside from that, not much movements on comps.  Still, EA is fucking with things so not much to really say, except that I was extra special careful in my count tonight, so I know the above is fairly accurate.

Maybe Sacramento is just bana—

VgunT8.giftumblr_otwk6gDwIl1r8dxfio2_500.gif

...

You know what?  Fair.

Got some bad news, freindios.

I was super busy, neck deep in another project this evening and I completely wiffed on grabbing EA showtimes.  By the time I realized what time it was and when I was able to get to my computer, it was long past being able to get the 7pm showtimes.

So gonna have to swerve slightly and report ***THURSDAY ONLY NUMBERS*** tonight.

Also might be unavailable tomorrow, so not even sure I can do a T-0 check (got some family biz I might need to take care of).  If I can't make a T-0 report, I'll drop a note sometime during the day.

Been a spell since something like this happened, but, eh.  Happens. 🙂

With that out of the way....

Quick and Dirty Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Sacramento Report [T-1]

*****THURSDAY ONLY NUMBERS******

1635/24738 (6.61% sold) [+490 tickets] 186 Thursday showings

1.08063x    GBFE      [5.08m]
0.72603x    GxK        [7.26m]

Because of the *gigantic* hole in my reporting, honestly not sure if the methodology holds up for the above.  But maybe somebody will find it of use.  And it's a Q&D so can't say I'll loose that much sleep over it.  Just means I can't use these numbers going forward.  Eh.

Spider-verse could be a comp but that is still a SH based movie. I think @Porthos should have good comps with couple of previous Pixar sequels though its tricky making comps with pre COVID BO. That said even Lightyear wont be a bad comp though this should do way better than that.

I think The Little Mermaid is probably the best comp for whoever has it, big Disney nostalgia IP movie iwith normal ticketing window and didn’t come out long enough ago to be unhelpful

This is in line with what i'm seeing from Florida. But wow @abracadabra1998 update was insane, could be a sign of an incoming breakout in the cinephile community.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, counted today for today, had 1.657 sold tickets.

Up decent 20% since yesterday.

Best sales in California (597 & 427 sold tickets) but also doing decent in NY (357). A bit weak between the coasts and in the AMC in Florida (196) but still way more even sales than for e.g. The Fall Guy last week which finally had 127 sold tickets in NY and 534 sold tickets in the AMC in LA.

Comps (all movies counted on Thursday of the release week for Thursday) The Fall Guy (2.35M from previews) had 1.071 sold tickets = 3.65M for Planet of the Apes.

GxK (9.2M) had 2.015 = 82% (it reached my goal ^^) = 7.55M (I doubt that it will have the same walk-ups but nice number).

JWD (18M) had 4.342 = 6.8M.

Uncharted (3.7M) had 1.294 = 4.75.

Civil War (2.6M) had 1.357 = 3.15.

And BT (4.6M) had 1.508 sold tickets (I used the wrong number yesterday, on Wednesday it were only 1.238, but even better) = 5.05M.

Average: 5.15M true Thursday (without EA). Could live with that result ;).

Went through and counted up IF presales for next weekend at Canton's theater and it's now up to 131.

I dunno, I have no comps but I feel like this is a pretty sizable haul a week in advance for an original non-Disney kids movie. I'd think Elemental would be the closest thing to a good comp if anyone has that available.

I'm always a fan of not oversaturating the theater count too high, especially over 4k. Bummer it is over 4k, but not by much. BUT is anyone a little suspicious of how "light" these theater counts are.

Dune 2 (just over 4k) was less than Dune 1, which was in a MUCH more crowded market.

KFP4 (just over 4k) was much less than How to Train Your Dragon 3 in a similar calendar period.

Ghostbusters was as over-saturated than expected.

GxK wasnt even in 4k, in 2019, that would've been a no-brainer.

TFG was just over 4k, much less than The Lost City in a similar period.

Now Apes (just over 4k) is notably less than WftPotA and Pikachu on the same calendar frame.

Not complaining, but definitely an interesting theme.
