Bob Train
Parasite is the only best picture winner in the last 5 years that I'd say deserved it. Amazing movie.
CoolioD1
This thread is the most anyone's talked about the movie CODA ever. even when it won nobody was talking about it, because of the will smith thing that year. 5
Ororo Munroe
Not into the comparisons but I loved Minari, should have won best picture imo.

Nothing is as big as My Heart Will Go On, lol. In America at least, We Don’t Talk About Bruno went #1 on the Hot 100 for multiple weeks, while Let It Go only peaked in the Top 5 (fellow 2013 nominee "Happy" was #1 for 10 weeks). Chart formulas change over time and Hot 100 success isn't the only measure of a song's popularity, of course. Awards campaigning isn't allowed as long as the SAG strike is happening. It's a totally ideal environment for Cillian Murphy right now: he seems like a nice enough guy but isn't as great at the "celebrity" part of being a famous actor. If there's a decent interval between the strike ending and awards voting, then RDJ will have Supporting Actor in the bag IMO. Gosling's Kenergy might be a bit annoying on the campaign trail, shades of Austin Butler's Elvis voice last year. Oh wow. I didn't know award campaigning's also not allowed. Hope the strike could be resolved by this winter.
Austin
Is Talk to Me A24's first movie to get a sequel? Im not much into A24 movies so i have no idea what their filmography really is. Edited August 9, 2023 by Austin
Arlborn
Disliking Oscar winners has always been a thing. It’s pretty hard to find an Oscar winner that doesn’t have loads of detractors. The conversation I’ve read in the last couple of pages eerily mirrors conversations I’ve seen and taken part in here in these forums quite a few years ago, just with different names.

There's also X, which has already received a prequel and has a sequel on the way. So this is actually their third movie to get a sequel, unless I'm missing another one. I feel like Return of the King probably doesn't have that much detractors, or their voices were just drowned in the sea of people rooting for LOTR. To be clear whether something wins Best Picture or not doesn't change my thoughts on the film. I felt the same about CODA and EEAAO before they won. If Barbie wins I'll still have the same opinion of it. I still like Parasite even if I didn't exactly agree with all the praise at the time and would have preferred 1917 as a winner. MovieMan89
3 hours ago, baumer said: Yes but there's also another way of looking at that. If Barbie has IMAX then it's going to lose other theaters. And also if it has IMAX are people willing to pay the astronomical amount of money to go watch it in imax? There's a reason why Avatar and the sequel were so IMAX friendly. Those movies were made for IMAX and made for 3d. People were willing to pay the IMAX and 3D prices because they knew they were getting something in those formats that would be beneficial to the movie. I don't see any reason why Barbie would do well in 3D and I really don't see a reason why you would need to see it on imax. Sure it would make extra money if it had IMAX but there's no guarantees it would pass Avatar in admissions. Yeah it is a valid point to bring up when IMAX and 3D actually hurt a movie. Toy Story 3 back in the day is the prime example. People were forced into like 80% 3D showings with that movie and maybe 10% of people actually wanted it for that movie. I will maintain 500 was possible without it, but 450 for sure. 1
AMC Theaters Enjoyer
I feel like Parasite was the last Best Picture win that the consensus was that people agreed with it or at least were chill with it.

I think Parasite may be the least contentious BP winner ever… at least on the internet. I can’t recall any other winner in Oscar history that has less detractors that I’ve seen.
