Not many, it actually doesn't seem that bad considering it's missing some major western european markets (germany, france, italy), SK, Japan, Australia and a bunch of LATAM and minor other markets IMO. Compared to the DOM numbers anyway.

Thanks! I thought it opened everywhere in Europe because it opened here in Spain this weekend. In that case, it is not that bad

It's awful, Deadline was looking for Wish to make 25m from international markets before the weekend a 17.3m number or 30% < Deadline's usually lowball predications.

The entire weekend is a flop besides Hunger Games.  All films grossing around, a 115m Thanksgiving weekend. It's not getting any better next month.

So a film like Hunger Games which kept its budget reasonable and hired actual

seasoned professionals to write and direct is being rewarded? Shocked

Also the film did a good job trying to appeal to the younger crowd.

Napoleon massively overperformed internationally and unlike Killers of the Flower Moon, it shows there's a healthy run for pricey streaming titles. Sony will make money out of this.

It will also build Ridley's name up for next year's Gladiator 2 and with the help of Denzel, I think that one will be an absolute dad porn smash.

yeah could Gladiator 2 be a mini Top Gun Maverick? The original is probably one of the most beloved blockbusters of all time

No one's going to deny Wish is a flop here lmao, all I'm saying is they're better than the DOM numbers, I don't really care what Deadline called.

I don't believe for a second it's gonna be received anywhere near the original or at least Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, Ridley is on autopilot since 2017 and this approach never helps to produce an all-timer or something widely praised.

Gladiator’s one of my all-time favourite movies for sure. I’ve said this before, but the soundtrack is also killer. Use some of those pieces in the trailers for Gladiator 2 and you’ll have a smash hit.

Regarding streaming titles, I’m really hoping Argylle becomes a Kingsman/Lost City type hit. I want streamers to know that theatrical exhibition is a lucrative option. Would love to see more streamers take those theatrical risks. So yea, I’m championing these movies as much as possible.

The Disney collapse is shocking and they continue to surprise us with every new release. It's like every new Disney film this year bombs harder than the one before. They completely overshadowed the collapse of the DCEU. Not even in its worst year, where it put out one bomb after another, DC can have the spotlight.

Happy for Rachel Zegler and the adult epic genre with Napoleon.

I think it's gonna be a combination of "adult dramas" being more accepted now as theatrical experiences, the original being a super beloved property, the cast filled with Internet boyfriends, Denzel's foolproof BO power and also Ridley building up his name in recent years with the gp. All of this could be for nothing if the movie is panned and the trailers are bad though but I'm hopeful.

Gladiator music is iconic

It plays in a trailer and it will get huge interest.

I think the only thing that can really hurt the film is poor quality but if its even half as good as the original it will a massive hit.

This year has been an absolute crapshoot for the box office.

The 50th highest grossing film domestically in 2023 is 80 for Brady at $39,330,588.

The 50th highest grossing film domestically in 2019 was Midway at $56,846,802.

The 50th highest grossing film domestically in 2009 was The Final Destination at $66,477,700.

The 50th highest grossing film domestically in 1999 was Stigmata at $50,041,732.

Sure, there were superhits like Barbie, Oppenheimer, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and we can spend time giving Disney shit for their failures this year, but we're all ignoring the fact that most films, individually, are making less than they made 20 years ago.

Gladiator imo is one of the best movies of the 21st century, not only blockbusters, but in general. It literally does everything right in its story and character work and has an absolutely iconic villain in Commodus. If Gladiator 2 manages to be at least half as good as the original, it has HUGE potential.

Gladiator is also one of the best examples of historical epics that get a ton of things wrong about the time they are portraying but it doesnt matter since the film is just so good that even history buffs - like me - can completely overlook these errors.
