Seems like Noa's tribe is starting to follow in his steps. I think looking back after this new trilogy is over, Raka will be huge catalyst for what goes down. Quote

Claire of Themyscira Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I wish I had written up my thoughts last night, but I loved this. Off the first impression, I think this might my favorite within the last three films. I never saw Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, and I don't really want to because of James Franco. But, I thoroughly enjoyed Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and I think I liked War Of The Planet Of The Apes more...TO ME! But, this one was special. The world building and storytelling were so beautiful. There were so many times my father and I glanced at each other because the visuals were so spectacular. It was such a stunning movie! I know people may have gripes with the length, but I'm a real ass bitch. And, I can appreciate when you are being given a whole story. It never dragged for me, and I never got bored. My father and I were shocked at the runtime by the time we were driving home. What I loved most about this is that it immerses you the best out of all the last films. I truly felt I was dropped into their world. So many great themes and imagery to talk about deeper. The last act had us shook. My grandfather was on the edge of his seat for a while, it was cute. In the ending though, I realized I had my first debate with the movie, and it was with May's character decisions. When I realized she was no Ellie, I found myself disappointed and hurt. But, in the end, it makes sense that humans never fail to be selfish and lookout for themselves, at the expense of others. The more I sit with that, the more I look forward to the rest. Fuck humans! Apes forever. ❤️ 2 Quote
CoolioD1 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 (edited) this was ok. the only two characters that were interesting to me were the Orangutan and William Macy as the house human but both were kinda wasted. the human girl I thought was pretty terrible. nothing about that character really worked for me with the acting or the writing. planet of the apes > conquest> dawn > rise > escape > war > beneath > kingdom > battle > planet of the apes Edited May 10 by CoolioD1 1 1 Quote

Youngstar Posted May 10 Posted May 10 I really loved this one. It's not quite as emotional as the last 3, but that's ok. The movie flew by for me. Out of the 4 new ones it's probably number 2 or 3. War is still my favorite, but it's on the same level as Dawn for me. Rise is last, but none of these movies are worse than a 8.5, so that's not a bad thing ^^ Quote
emoviefan Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Really loved this. My second favorite movie of the year behind Dune Part 2. The World Building in this series of movies continues to astound me. Of the 4 most recent I would go 1)Dawn, 2)Kingdom, 3)War and 4)Rise. None of them less than 8 out of 10. As for Raka they could bring him back. You never see the body. Kind of surprised how quick they take him out of the story. As for Mae yeah they show that humans will look out for number one time and time again. But overall a great adventurous exciting movie. Avatree Posted May 11 Posted May 11 I enjoyed this, a lot more than I was expecting to. Apes were great. The CGI is insane. Comparing a still picture, the apes look the same as the previous ones, but in motion, they look so much more lifelike. Great to see how far the technology has come in the past decade. I didn't mind the first half taking its time, it was atmospheric. But the second half was a bit rushed. I would have liked to spend more time in the camp and more time with Proximus cause he was a terrific villain. It touched on some interesting ideas but didn't really explore them, I guess we have to wait for sequels for that. The girl was crap. Barely a character. And her performance was awful, particularly with her flip-flopping English-American accent. That being said, I thought it was actually really gripping, so as an action film, I thought it worked really well. Quote

JohnnyGossamer Posted May 11 Posted May 11 This was fine. Lotta great ideas, all of which are undercooked. Looks great. Another movie in the ongoing trend in which the ending feels it should've been the start of the 3rd act. Proximus was great. Macy was great. Raka was great. Quote
filmlover Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I found this to be an effective continuation of the surprisingly terrific Caesar trilogy. There's just something about a civilization in which apes have taken over the world from humans that is just fascinating to ponder. As in the other movies, the CGI is absolutely breathtaking: they didn't teach actual apes how to act and talk, but you believe they did through the impeccable visual effects work. It's a bit long for sure but the more deliberate pacing seems fitting for this material, and I'm very much intrigued by the direction the next movie is headed in. B+ 2 Quote

Cmasterclay Posted May 12 Posted May 12 Really liked alot about this from both an ideas and a filmmaking perspective. Definitely good. Did not coalesce into the quality of the last three - largely because it kind of abandons some of the ideas for the finale, and in even larger part because a huge part of the film was built around a performance and a character that was so bad it made Jar Jar Binks look like Marlon Brando in the Godfather. Yeesh. Didn't really love the new lead ape either, though that was more a writing issue than performance one. The overall concept, the ideas, the supporting characters all much better. Quote
WittyUsername Posted May 13 Posted May 13 What I’m gathering from this thread so far is that Freya Allan is the most contentious part of the film. I didn’t think her performance was especially great, but I wouldn’t say she was distractingly bad. If she’s being set up as a major antagonist of these new movies though, then that makes Proximus Caesar’s apparent death rather disappointing. Quote
