Flip Posted May 10 Posted May 10 270m, pretty weird decision to release it right before Deadpool Quote
titanic2187 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 That is quite a terrible early OS number if these are full release and not just some sneak preview. Quote

Marathon Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Yeah, the timing of the release was odd when August is completely wide open. Quote

titanic2187 Posted July 15 Posted July 15 In new play, WB started rolling out Twisters, launching in 38 markets and grossing $11.5M on 8,266 screens. In like-for-like markets and using today’s exchange rates, the opening weekend results track 33% ahead of Into the Storm, 31% greater than the original Twister and 16% higher than The Fall Guy. Mexico launched with $3.3M at No. 2 and ahead of key comps including Fall Guy (+99%), Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (+35%), Uncharted (+34%) and Into the Storm (+24%). Australia whipped up $2.5M, also ahead of key comps and including Geostorm (+136%) and Meg 2: The Trench (+14%). Brazil’s $914K launch is on par with Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Geostorm and well above other comps. Thailand was a No. 1 start with $780K and 70% share of the top five films. Twisters’ results are on par with Into the Storm, 432% over Frozen Empire, 399% higher than Fall Guy, 154% above Uncharted and 28% bigger than Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Next week will see another 38 overseas markets open, including most of Europe and China. Japan and Korea go in August. ADVERTISEMENT 1 1 Quote

keysersoze123 Posted July 18 Posted July 18 1st movie did good numbers for 1996. This is a disaster in OS markets. That shows not everything can be made relevant again in different era. its not enough of a spectacle to pull in audience outside domestic. Quote
Unfitclock Posted July 18 Posted July 18 @keysersoze123 what kind of opening does it look like it will have this weekend? Quote

Predicting OS weekend is not easy. too many variables. That said its not doing well anywhere. Every report looks bad. China is not even opening to 1m OD is shocking. I remember a disaster flick 2012 back in 2009 was almost the biggest hollywood movie in China. Many of the other disaster flicks have also done well over there. But they seem to ignore most hollywood movies these days and even the biggest hits seem to have a ceiling that is way below pre COVID. Quote
Firepower Posted July 18 Posted July 18 (edited) The movie simply lacks any relatability to most people overseas and it doesn't have strong enough spectacle to overcome that. Idiots chasing twisters and tornadoes with high tech for fun and then being surprised it's dangerous when they are already inside is not something particularly exciting or very interesting. titanic2187 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Quote The global cume, largely boosted by domestic’s heartland turnout this weekend, is now $123.2M. Universal has domestic rights and Warner is handling overseas where $27.1M was wrangled from 76 markets this frame. That’s after early release in 38 markets last session. This weekend saw a 30% drop overall overseas, for a $42.7M offshore cume. Quote Latin America had great holds at Colombia (+8%), Argentina (+1%), Mexico (-22%), Peru (-23%) and Brazil (-31%). Australia was down just 21%. Japan and and Korea are still to release. Just 35% of overseas box office. The worst ratio coming off from major studio. Not even an American-centric movie like American Sniper got this low. But at least the hold seem ok? Maybe some rebound incoming. Quote
