Even then, I'd struggle to say that Sony Animation is up to par with Blue Sky.

I really just don't see why The Star would perform better than Sony's other stuff.

The Star seems more in tuned as a holiday type movie than Coco does, depending on quality and how it appeals to families and Christians and the GA while it may not outgross Coco, it might be a surprise hit.

SPA aren't even on par with WAG who have released fewer movies.

I agree, even with the Christmas theme, it's unlikely to be a huge hit. The last animated SPA Christmas movie which was a co-production with Aardman was Arthur Christmas and that bombed domestically despite being decent.

Arthur Christmas also dealt with Muppets, Hugo, and Happy Feet 2 on OW. To be honest outside of The Star and Animated Spider-Man, (HT3 will do KFP3 numbers and Goosebumps 2 and Smallfoot may hurt each other) SPA has nothing capable of being a new franchise.

The Star can't be a franchise, it's a one and done film about the Nativity.

With Sony so desperate for franchises if it breaks out, they might to an Easter themed sequel. But both of those things are longshots.

lmao you reminded me of that Thanksgiving 2011 clusterfuck of family films.  What geniuses thought releasing Puss in Boots, Jack and Jill, Happy Feet 2, Arthur Christmas, Hugo, The Muppets, Tintin and Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 in such close proximity to each other was a good idea?

Such a shame only Hugo was worth seeing.

A Easter sequel sounds grim. I still don't believe it'll be anymore than a modest success at best especially with SPA's track record.

Paramount and Sony wanted some of that Xmas cash, each had 3+ family films in that timeframe. WB thought HF could be a franchise. Disney thought Muppets would be a decent hit. Fox wanted Alvin money.

Again I'm waiting for a teaser/trailer to decide but it could happen. But if it does happen, They'll do something like the animals look to visit Jesus to help him only to find out he "disappeared", they become sad and head home, Jesus rises from the dead and they reunite and boom happy ending.

Sounds like a bad DTV sequel which Sony probably would release.

No love for The Muppets or Tintin?  Shame.  For shame.

Tintin was technically proficient but it was missing any heart. I didn't bother to see the Muppets. Seemed too childish to me.

The Muppets was great and I enjoyed Tintin a lot but then again, I grew up with each and I think it captures the Herge style
