I think there was a notification on my phone about this. This isn't a real movie.

receiving the notification probably counted as a view. 🤔

It Ends With Us could be another Where the Crawdads Sing. Trap also looks like more of a potential breakout than M. Night's last two efforts ever did. And Alien could find an audience (to an extent) if it's a quality movie to semi-combat the fatigue surrounding that franchise.

The rest of the month does look filled with typical End of Summer dumps though, yeah.

It Ends With Us looks horrifyingly bad and for that reason I'm kinda interested in seeing it. Crawdads sucked but not on a level that can be enjoyed. This looks like a "good" time at the movies.

Numerous movies finished between 195m and 199m in the past. (And between 95m and 99m, and 295m and 299m). It's normal. The only time I can remember a studio very obviously and forcibly dragging a movie towards a milestone for weeks was Superman Returns (see below, and check out those averages), but if a movie can't get extremely close - like within a million, two at the most - on its own, they don't care.

To be fair, it got to 199.65 on its own (with great help from Christmas) but yeah, I forgot that they failed to cover the remaining ground with an expansion and had to wait till The Brothers Grimsby to fudge it lol.

How could you say that when FNAF and The Marvels released

Haven’t seen The Marvels but FNAF at least had cool animatronics. pain hustlers was just obnoxious, had nothing to say about its subject, waste of time.

I thought it was a serviceable mid-budget drama. Like an ok movie from the 90s or 00s.

Most don't but, despite weak reviews, Don't Look Up was big & buzzy. People seemed to resonate with it and it combined good numbers with abnormal anecdotes about people actually talking about the film in real life.

.

Never knew one person who saw that. Most of the “buzz” I recall came from the fact that McKay is an arrogant, preachy A-Hole who thinks he’s smarter than he is. Another movie that only had “success” because it was on Netflix. Nobody would have paid to see it otherwise.

Well that's because if it wasn't released, no movie would be seen. Brilliant analysis

None of these Netflix films have even the remotest cultural impact whatsoever. Challengers has had more cultural impact than any Netflix original since Bird Box despite the "mediocre" box office.

... I guess? Is argue neither Challengers or Atlas have cultural impact. Unless 'a week or two of memes and then no one ever talks about the film again' is what you consider cultural impact.

Garfield and Furiosa both seem to be having pretty solid Saturdays from what I’m seeing. Maybe not enough to save the box office, but definitely enough to dampen the doom and gloom a little bit.

Took the family to see Garfield. It's not a good film, but it entertained the kids, particularly the younger ones. The matinee show was pretty busy with lots of young families that have probably been waiting for a film like this that's age appropriate.

This was essentially an Illumination film, but maybe a third of the jokes.

It's like regular folk do not pay attention to any of this crap and go to a movie when they dam well feel like it
