I caught a review screening of it (some blogger types were there). Here's my short impressions. 

 

I actually enjoyed it though obviously nowhere as good as Casino Royale. Had its moments though. It started off great then the last bit of the film fell short. It did feel a tad too long. Craig was great as usual. Some of the one liners were hilarious, had me giggling. 

 

The cinematography was fucking stunning. The opening scene was so damn good, had me breathless. Well worth the price of a theater ticket. IMAX should be amazing. 

 

Waltz also tried, but felt like he was restrained a bit, the villain is kinda underwhelming after the trailer and very unconvincing,

not helped by the ridiculous backstory. Also another global domination story. Something something surveillance.

 

B+ Solid entry to the series.

What were your thoughts on Léa's character and acting?

Craig said quite a few times he wanted to recapture the lighter mood of the earlier films, so maybe that had something to do with it. But I agree, bad idea to alter tones now, if indeed it was intended and not just the product of a rushed schedule.

That said, the RT has held up impressively well... so far.

Actually it makes sense. The ending of Skyfall showed they were going back to the feel of the old Bond movies

Maybe american critics are just no fans of boring action......       If they see it....

It hasn't exactly been warmly embraced by the British press.  Some love it but over half of the current scored reviews on RT are 3/5 stars or less but all the 3/5s are scored fresh, maybe because RT is feeling particularly generous.

Not surprised, since no way was EON going to let him out of his contract. He has one more to do, then he and Eon will part ways,if for no other reason then the age factor. No one wants a repeat of Moore in A View To A Kill,where he was obviously too old for Bond.

QoS was on TV the other night. I can't imagine it's going to be that.... Unmemorable. Also, can we just have a classic 'man on a mission' Bond now?

Hey, new to the site.

 

The reviews seem mostly positive, not sure where the antaganism is coming from? Find it odd that some review praise the bond girl, but others find it sexist? I guess the female in MI 5 was strong because she fired a gun? Nevermind she used her nude leg to balance it...
