I just want a really strong Bond girl. The Bond girls have been pretty weak for the most part since the days of Roger Moore came to and end. Moore had a nice run of Bond girls starting with agent XXX in TSWLM and running through Octopussy. The only really good one since has been Vespa.

I think Penelope Cruz has potential to be a phenomenal Bond girl. They wouldnt hire her if the role was really flimsy.

Vespa or Vesper? The weakest thing of Skyfall was the lack of a strong Bond girl. Hope they improve that. I don't really care too much for the actress. The key here is if the role will be strong enough.

Halle Berry, Olga Kurilenko, Naomi Harris, Denise Richards and Michelle Yeoh didn't have much to do with the role they received. Besides Vesper, the only main modern Bond girl I really liked was Natalya (Izabella Scorupco) in Goldeneye. I also loved Gemma Arterton in QoS. A shame her character was so wasted.

I liked the change of pace of Skyfall not having a main Bond girl. Bond girls tend to be better when they actually serve a purpose to the plot or as a foil to Bond's character. All of the Daniel Craig films have been good about this so far.

Berenice Marhole as Severine in Skyfall had huge potential as a Bond girl, but they messed up and seriously wasted her character.

Plus I don't buy at all the whole idea that some people say which is that M was the "Bond girl" in Skyfall.

Leyla, do you find the Bond girl role demeaning?

it depends on the film & the role of the character in the said film

but M WAS the official Bond girl/mom in the film

I lol'ed @ the joke about that in that Qos' plane sequence :rotfl:

I still think I saw a different Skyfall to everyone else. I thought it was fairly good, nothing more nothing less. I've tried to make myself love it but I can't.

If I remember correctly Tele isn't crazy about it either.

I was one of the few people talking shit about Skyfall, but after seeing it a 2nd time (and a 3rd time. And a 4th time) I now absolutely love it.

Interesting news around Bond: http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/mgm-bond-producer-end-long-legal-battle-royale-with-thunderball-co-scribe/

MGM and the producer of the James Bond movies have finally acquired all of the rights to the 007 franchise. After a legal battle royale that has gone on more than 50 years, the studio and Danjaq today announced they now have all of the rights and interests to the British spy held by Kevin McClory and his estate.

This comment actually throws more light on it:

This is hugely important, as McClory had retained all film rights for SPECTRE and Blofeld after a period of ten years during which the films from Danjaq/Eon were allowed to use the stuff. Broccoli wanted to revive Blofeld as the villain for The Spy Who Loved Me but they were threatened of a legal action by McClory.

This is why there’s this silly cold opening in For Your Eyes Only, in which an unnamed “bald villain” kidnaps Bond in an abandoned factory. They wanted to show that they could make great Bond films even without SPECTRE or Blofeld, and without McClory.

I don’t think that Blofeld will come back after a 40 year interruption but I’m pretty sure the screenwriters had been told for years to be very careful with a recurring criminal organization, as they could be sued for plagiarizing SPECTRE. They carefully introduced Quantum in Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace, but it wasn’t as colorful as SPECTRE was. Now, they’re free to start a new arc that would use elements from SPECTRE or reuse the name itself.

SPECTRE and Blofeld may be back.
