Krissykins Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Sillier and goofier than expected. But it’s a blast. Coralie Fargeat is 2 for 2. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Showgirls meets Freaked meets The Fly. Quote
ThePhasmid Posted September 20 Posted September 20 It will be tough to find a film with a wilder ending this year. The events leading up to it are equally as thrilling with one of the most brutal fight scenes I've ever seen. Theater was at around 70 percent full last night. Incredible experience. 1 Quote
filmpalace Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Seeing this for the first time a few weeks ago in a sold out theater that went absolutely crazy, has to be one of my all time fav moviegoing experiences. Just such a wild ride. It's 2,5 hours, but never drags, Truly some of the best pacing I've seen in a while. 1 Quote
Jim Shorts Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I knocked it down a star because I knew right away Margaret Qualley was wearing prosthetics. But yeah, the 2nd time around when Sue injected herself, I thought for sure Demi was going to pop back out and this would be like some sort of second chance for her to live her life without being obsessed with beauty and age. Boy was I wrong. Quote
PatrickvD Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Career-defining performance for Demi Moore. It was completely bonkers from beginning to end. Audience completely ate it up. 5 Quote
Mojoguy Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Beautiful film. Great satire on ageism, impossible beauty standards, sexism, feminism, and how cruel women can be towards each. Demi and Margaret were fantasic. Margaret is so gorgeous. Was expecting just an arthouse low buget horror film but got much more than that. Best body horror film ever along with The Fly. 2 Quote
theruraljuror1121 Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Some images from this movie will not leave my mind. Completely wild. I had heard the ending of this movie was wild, and as I watched Margaret Qualley slamming Demi Moore's heavily age makeup'd head into a mirror, I was like "this must be it!" boy was I in for a ride. Things I keep thinking about: - The final form curling her minimal hair (for it to burn off) and sticking the earrings in wherever - The pained Demi face on the back of the final form - Demi's smiling face crawling across hollywood boulevard - Vomiting out a boob - The food-covered apartment than reminded me of an old roommate's cleaning habits 2 Quote
solaris Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I haven't stopped thinking about this since last week's viewing. It's one of the most arresting experiences I've had in a cinema ever. The academy is nowhere near cool enough to nominate Demi for an Oscar but boy does she deserve it. I hope it gets a surprise technical nod for make up or cinematography. I felt the last 10 minutes or so may have gone a touch too far, but it was all worth it for that final shot - brilliant, grotesque, funny, and haunting (a lot like the whole film). Monstro Elisasue putting on her little earrings was a hilarious, tragic touch. I'll be surprised if anything tops this as my film of the year. Quote
filmlover Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Finally got around to seeing this. While I don't think it entirely lives up to the hype (I mostly knew beforehand that it had a crazy third act, and even then, nothing prepared me for the sheer total insanity on display), it's certainly a clever and unique, if a bit overlong, blend of body horror and industry satire that makes on point observations about ageism and impossible beauty standards, complete with some of the most horrific and unforgettable imagery I've seen in quite some time. Furthermore, the entirely committed performances from Demi Moore (a career best probably) and Margaret Qualley add immensely to the demented experience. It's easily the most audacious movie I've seen all year, and I'll honestly be shocked if anything else surpasses it for that title. B+ Quote
