The New Mutants | August 28, 2020 | Rumors are saying it released, but no one we know saw it

Recommended Posts

we don't know if this has contractual oblgation for theater release, that was just from fanboy's dream idea.

If they decide to go theater release, it need to make +200m at ww boxoffice.

Dark Phoenix only made 250m ww with that long history of brand and big name actors.. so it's really big red light.

simonkinberg said on May they will do some pick ups. but who knows.. (they said that since 2018.. lol)

there was reshoot rumor from twitter fan account who apparently has some insider tea on this.

but some actors got new gig, the reshoot/pick up only can happen in december.

also josh boone is busy with "the stand" shooting along with henry zaga.. set to start filming september to 2020 march.

how many reshoots they need to finally admit they cannot polish this turd?

There haven't been any reshoots yet - just talk of them happening.   Kinsberg said he wanted them but he could have done them for over a year when he was still in charge - but didn't.

The better question is who would be doing the reshooting if the director and one of the stars are going to be shooting The Stand for CBS All Access from September to March?

That should answer the question.

Disney is optimistic that handing Fox superhero properties such as “Fantastic Four” and “X-Men” to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will improve the quality of these movies, but bumps must be smoothed over in that transition. The studio is unimpressed with “New Mutants,” an “X-Men” spinoff with a haunted-house vibe, and believes it has limited box office potential.

So it’s still on track to be incorporated by Feige into the MCU as his preferred way of introducing mutants.

Right, Riggins?

Riggins seem to have retreated a little on that 'now he insists the film will be "coming out".

He is right, the film will see the light of day somehow. But the odds seem to be growing it will become a "Special Attraction" on one of Disney's streaming services.

And from the way they handled it, Fox officials were no more impressed with NM then the Disney execs were.

Two different sets of studio managers both pretty much think the film stinks. That should tell you something.

And, yeah, some fans have become expert at ignoring reality.

Is it?  Coulda fooled me... 😉   Who's "excited"..?  Online?  Does that translate into automatic tickets sales?  Oh, we can't buy tickets, yet?  Oh, the release date keeps shifting?  Oh, FOX will become a mostly-streaming distributor now?  Sounds convenient!

And basically, the film has already "failed," going by rumblings, so I'd expect its actual release to be similarly low-key underwhelming, like...oh yeah, like Dark Phoenix.  These two projects were clearly doomed from the start.

But I respect your rah rah tenacity in the face of almost certain disappointment.

And no, no representative of the studio ever said anything about reshoots.  They usually don't.  KINBERG did.  But as we should all now know (especially post-Dark Phoenix), KINBERG probably won't get exactly what he wants.

Then again, Hollywood has a history of allowing creative mishaps to "fail upward"...

And after what happened with Dark Phoenix, Kinberg level of creditiblitly at Disney is about zero.

It has to be better than the miniseries... I still remember people very loudly doubting that the IT remake could possibly live up to that ABC TV-Movie's "impact"...

Actually the new version is another miniseries for CBS Access. It was originally supposed to be a movie, but that was changed;guess someone realized the story is just to big for a single film.

But, yeah, it's would not be very hard to be better then the previous miniseries.which pretty much sucked.

They really should just sneak dump this in a couple hundred theaters or so on Labor Day weekend in two weeks and call it a day. Put this poor movie out of its misery already.

Hell, even the director seems to have given up on it and moved on to "The Stand".

Kinberg seems to be the only guy still pushing for extensives reshoots, and his standing at The Mouse after Dark Phoenix is non existent.

It's Dead, Jim......

This wrapped nearly two years ago and reshoots still haven't happened yet. Hobbs & Shaw was announced, written, shot, edited and released in that timeframe.

I think Dark Phoenix bombing so badly ended whatever chance there was for Disney spending anything but minimum money legally necessary on this movie.
