cannastop Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) I saw someone lament that "most of" the top 10 of 2024 will be animated films. Whether that's true, as I see the three animated movies in the top 10 now are Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, and Kung Fu Panda 4, and there is the upcoming Moana 2... Anyway, I just wanted to recount the years where animated movies were in the DOM top 10 of In-Year Releases. 2024: Inside Out 2, Despicable Me 4, Kung Fu Panda 4 2023: The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2022: Minions: The Rise of Gru, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 2021: Sing 2 2020: Onward, The Croods: A New Age 2019: Frozen II, Toy Story 4 2018: Incredibles 2, The Grinch 2017: Despicable Me 3 2016: Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets, Zootopia, Sing 2015: Inside Out, Minions 2014: The Lego Movie, Big Hero 6 2013: Frozen, Despicable Me 2, Monsters University 2012: Brave, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted 2011: Cars 2 2010: Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After, How to Train Your Dragon, Tangled 2009: Up So I guess most years it's one or two animated movies in the top 10. 2016 was a big outlier with 4, and it was nearly 5 with Moana in the #11 spot. I guess though if you count The Lion King remake as animated or not, makes a difference, as Mufasa is coming up... though that movie has to make the top 10 first. 👀 But at the same time, Kung Fu Panda 4 is likely to fall out of the top 10 with new releases yet to come this year. And there was also 2010, where literally half of the top 10 was animated movies. So I guess what I'm saying is that maybe it is true that 2024 has more successful animated movies than other years but it's not a complete anomaly. Edited November 8 by cannastop 2 Quote
