cannastop Posted November 8 Posted November 8 The re-issues of Soul, Luca, and Turning Red were failures, making less than $1.5m each. The release of The Lion King (1994) in July of this year only did $2.5 million. At the same time there is the Coraline re-release which made $34m this year and the ever successful The Nightmare Before Christmas, which made over $6 million. Coraline wasn't available on streaming, which might explain some of its success but it's still off the charts. Avatar in 2022 made $25 million and Titanic made $15 million in 2023. Now, Avatar was taken off of streaming platforms while it was in theaters, but still. So what is it that makes it work? And what is the benchmark for success? Quote
SchumacherFTW Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Marketing helps, even if it's just social media. Avatar and Titanic both got an actual marketing push, the Disney rereleases this year basically just got a poster each for marketing. 1 Quote

Way too soon for a rerelease for the above. I understand the idea was they did not a fair chance on their intial release because of COVID, but that idea did not work. Lion King is more of a puzzle. Corlaine was a suprise, particlualy since the original was not a blockbuster hit, but has gained a following since. I suspect that a lot of those who saw it on video or cable wanted to see it on a big screen, in addition to the streaming unavaialibty.. Quote
