Was obviously not as good as the original. With some of the events since the original left unexplained I felt there was something missing. Like why was Lucius just sent away immediately when the threat from Commodus was gone, or how did those two idiots become emperors.

 

But despite all that, The film absolutely delivers on spectacle, and I mostly had a great time.

The only thing more predictable than Denzel acting rings around everyone is that Fred Hechinger is preposterously bad. He's like a younger Leto.

 

Movie's good. Paul Mescast, but the spectacle is there in spades. I was entertained.

Haven't seen it but clear as day Austin Butler should have been in Mescal's role, Mescal does not have the big future everyone seems to think he does critically.

I am curious what happens to Emperor Caracella. Historiaclaly,he was killed by some of his own generals who saw he was leading ROme to disaster. No doubt they spiced it up a bit.

In fact the assination of Caracella begun the Crisis of the Third Century...basically, Rome came very close to falling about 200 years before it did fall.Sequeld, here we come.

Denzel is so fucking good

people are being a little too hard on Paul Mescal and not hard enough on Pedro Pascal, who is completely sleepwalking through this.

Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal were both very flat. Pascal seemed bored.  Denzel felt like he was acting in a different movie.  It took me out of the film sometimes. But, he is the best part of the film with the twins.  So much of the action was just empty spectacle imo.  

 

The hairless apes looked bad.  The ships in the colosseum battle sounds like a cool idea but it just doesnt work in the film.   Paul killing Denzel was a better scene than Paul vs Pedro.   Overall, the movie is okay.

Paul vs Denzel really felt like a fight out of the earlier Assassin's Creed games lol.

It was good but I’d give it a B at best. Felt a little rushed at times. Too many characters and turns throughout the storyline.

Thought Pedro was great, but he had a much smaller role in the movie than I expected

The movie has too many deaths in addition to its messy plot. Overall the movie deliver its action-packed spectacle well but fall short of its emotional stake. Scott's battle scene worth some praise and I would even say the battle sequences is better than in Dune 2. They look more chaotic and organic. Overall the cast deliver the ok performance except the two actors playing emperors. The performance is simply childish and phony. Another criticism go to Connie, her performance is straight out bad and unbearable next to legendary Denzel.

However it clear ridley can't edit  a movie anymore or get the best performances form his actors.

Such a disappointing bore. The original always moves me to tears; this just moved me to sleep. Ridley’s lost the plot
