May 4, 2012 Weekend (AVENGERS Opening Discussion): ACTUAL 207.4 mill!!!!

Recommended Posts

There's no confirmation on the 70 m figure and 35% isn't necessarily the most it could drop. The matinees will still rocking tomorrow but the night will be much weaker. TDK's Sunday might be an underdog but it is definitely still in the fight.

It's not dropping more than 30%. Too much spillover.

so is avengers the most overrated superhero movie of all time now?

No...this is:

I still give it 3.5/4 stars, but most people on here treat it like it's right up there with TDK...it's not even close. TA is a 4/4 star film to me, but it's hard to compare it with TDK since it's a different kind of film. I think it's in my top ten, I just have to see it again to nail down a more solid position.

It seems you're holding it against Nolan that he didn't have Anton Furst as a production designer. And Batman seems smart enough to me. He has a wry wit I appreciate more than Keaton's mugging for one thing. Are you talking about how Keaton's Batman had all of his Batman equipment made while Bale's just modifies existing equipment?I do agree that we have yet to see "The World's Greatest Detective" on the big screen. Any planned reboot would be smart to go that route with the character. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is still the best adaption of that aspect of Batman IMO.

No, this isn't about Furst or Burton's version. It's about the fact that Gotham in the comics and Animated Series feels right. It doesn't really feel like Gotham particularly in TDK, but even in Begins as well. As far as the intelligence goes, that little one-liner scene in Begins where Lucius tells Bruce, "I just wanted you to know how hard it was" bothers me because Bruce is supposed to be a world class chemist. He should be smarter than they're portraying him.

It's above TDK for me. Watching it right now as a matter of fact.

I agree the first time I watched I liked, second time it was okay. Now I do even watch Iron Man.

For me, Avengers is better then Iron Man which I was hoping for. So I was totally and completely satisfied. I don't know how it could have been better.

I see your point there. But one thing films have to do that comics don't is be more realistic. Especially in Nolan's version. He's obviously damn good at a lot of things, when did this guy have time to become a world class chemist? If a character on film is just good at everything, then he ceases to be vulnerable and believable. And isn't it that vulnerability and believability that sets Batman apart from Superman, making him a more likable character?
