May 4, 2012 Weekend (AVENGERS Opening Discussion): ACTUAL 207.4 mill!!!!

Recommended Posts

How big is Puerto Rico anyway ???

Not sure if you are kidding, but PR here is a joke that dates back to Transformers 2. Check this out:* Note: Revenge of the Fallen's weekend gross fell $3 million short of Paramount's Sunday estimate, which would have put the five-day opening at $198.2 million. Though shy of $200 million, it would have still ranked second among the all time five-day starts. However, Paramount revised its grosses from Wednesday and Thursday upward, and that's what pushed the total past $200 million. Wednesday went from $60.6 million to $62.0 million, and Thursday went from $28.6 million to $29.1 million. Paramount reported that the differences came from unreported showings from the movie's midnight openings on Wednesday night, which went from the previously reported $16 million at around 3,000 theaters to $16.8 million at close to 3,300 theaters, as well as late reports from institutional IMAX locations and theaters in Puerto Rico and some Caribbean islands (which the studio counts in its domestic numbers), which accounted for $1.1 million of the difference.http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=2601&p=.htm

With 200 mill, there is so much Peurto Rico that can be done to keep it over this number. And if you look at the Sunday drop they have it projected at 28%. IMHO (maybe not so humble,,,lol) there is no chance in the world it drops 28% today. It will probably drop Spiderman 3 or maybe even less..

The sellouts I'm seeing in my area do not support anything other than actuals going up. Would be stunning to me if the actuals drop. I honestly think sellouts here right now are pretty much as strong as yesterday.

Not very big, about 4 million people.Though if the figure comes up to be like 197.5 or something, I'm sure Disney will magically discover an entire state to push it over to 200M. :P :P

Man, your complaints about Nolan's Batman are exactly the same as mine. Don't take me as a Marvel fan, I' a comic book fan firs and foremost. I think in some sense I'm even more extremist than you, since I think that besides Batman Begins is the best live action outing, Mask of the Phantasm is THE Batman adaptation of all time so far. I give Nolan credit, but TDK is horribly overrated, same for Inception. BB and The Prestige are the best movies Nolan has ever done imo, and not always having complete comtrol over a movie direction is the best thing it could happen for it.I give Nolan credit, but knowing that Batman can and should be so much more pisses me off.

You sound like me when I talk about the Hulk. I continue to wait for the comic version to make it to the screen. The Hulk was "the best Hulk yet" in Avengers...but still he's basically a mute with little personality and no character development. That works when he's surrounded by interesting characters like Iron Man, Thor, and Capt America...but I say it bombs again in a solo film.At least the watered down Batman makes money at the box office. :) I would love to see a comic Batman at some point....genius master detective type character. ...And maybe lose the body armor so he can actually move and have amazing action scenes? You know it's bad when Black Widow has better actions scenes than Batman. :o

Yes!

A more shaping-body suit.

Is a yellow belt totally impossible on big screen?

$204m would be incredible. I'm just nervous that someone is fudging to get the press rounds going today about $200m, but we actually end up with something like $198.5m tomorrow. I don't really think that's happening, but, its totally a realistic scenario.

198.5mio would be an incredible good number, to sell a 200+feet superyacht.. :)

The final number will be 205+

Little late to the party eh?

Not really, been posting in this thread since Friday, i've always been a Summer Box Office poster, about 50 of my comments to date are in this thread since the summer movie season has begun. I follow box office year around but I really follow the summer months most, even back during the BOM Days. This morning I had a lot to do and was offline all day since about 10am when no new numbers were reported. I also forgot my phone at home so I could not check numbers, but I knew the OW record was gone when I left the theater Friday night, the movie was too good and just my box office knowledge from over the years it just felt like the feel good movie of the summer. Like people are saying Josh didn't shy away from the Comic Genre, he embraced it and that's why the response is what it is. It's funny cause The Avengers felt so colorful and bright while TDKR Seems dark and gloomy. It really is a contrast in styles but The Avengers seems way more family friendly which is why I can honestly say it will win the Summer of 2012. I'm not just saying that cause it did 200 Million even though that's huge, I'm saying it cause of my feeling after leaving the theater. I've been fully converted by my personal experience with the movie. Dare I say it's the perfect summer blockbuster?, it just hit all the right notes. As for 500 Million, let's just say it's cleaning up the next 2 weeks and won't lose until MIB3, it will clean up all the way through Memorial Day. 400 Million is Locked, I think 450 is pretty much assured also, everything after that will be determined by it's legs.
