Saturday Estimates

1 (-) The Great Gatsby (Warner Bros.) ¥76 million ($805,000) DEBUT! [311 theaters]
2 (1) G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Paramount) ¥64 million ($679,000), -41%, Week 2
3 (2) Oblivion (Toho-Towa) ¥45 million ($477,000), -41%, Week 3
4 (3) Miracle Apples (Toho) ¥43 million ($456,000), -32%, Week 2
5 (-) I've Not Done My Best Yet! (Shochiku) ¥42 million ($445,000) DEBUT! [172 theaters]
6 (4) The Complex (Shochiku) ¥28 million ($297,000), -26%, Week 5
7 (-) The Serialist (Toei) ¥19 million ($201,000) DEBUT! [147 theaters]
8 (5) Olympus Has Fallen (Asmik Ace) ¥18 million ($190,000), -48%, Week 2
9 (6) Real (Toho) ¥14 million ($148,000), -48%, Week 3
10 (7) Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea (Toho) ¥12 million ($127,000), -14%, Week 9

Solid for The Great Gatsby, targeting a ¥150 million ($1.6 million) opening weekend. And with the buzz from Cannes, it's believed it's Friday earnings were higher than normal so it may be looking at ¥200 million+ ($2.1 million) for the 3-day.

Not-bad for I've Not Done My Best Yet! considering the theater count and showtimes it received, and meh for The Serialist.

The box-office will remain pretty slow until Midsummer Formula opens June 29th, and from that point on and well into late-September is full of bigger releases. May and June are typically two of the weaker months in the year, but they were nearly abandoned this year.

"Solid debut for The Great Gatsby that should get it to the ¥1 billion $11/12 million) mark without much trouble. The film opened on Friday, too, so the 3-day will be around ¥200 million ($2.1 million).

I've Not Done My Best Yet performed well playing at just 172 locations and had the best psa for the weekend.

Great hold for Miracle Apples in it's second week. It earned very high satisfaction ratings and recommendations last week so legs are certainly going to be strong, and it's probably making 60%+ of it's total during the weekdays, too."
