I will try to expand this to the Biggest 17th-20th Weekends in a few weeks. It will only become Spirited Away and Your Name., and then Demon Slayer once it's added, after Week 20 I think unless Bohemian Rhapsody makes it on. Frozen and Avatar had already mostly wrapped up by then, both cut short by Disney. Frozen's home video release was rushed to make a Summer release, and Avatar was largely pulled when Alice in Wonderland took all its 3D screens (hardly anyone was interested in 2D back in 2010).

But Spirited Away and Your Name. (and Bohemian Rhapsody, just need to check it again) were still ongoing for months like Demon Slayer likely will be.

Thanks very much for your research!!

I really love this kind of data and i think this is the only place in the world where i can get it.

It´s really amazing how S.A. and Your Name held week by week, really legendary performances, although now they seem little compared to this mega monster DS.

Don´t abandon this forum ever!

Just to clear a bit of confusion, the poster you are quoting is not the source of that information. It was copied and pasted from Corpse at World of KJ. Nothing against that by the way (Corpse encourages it), just giving credit where it's properly due.

Yes, I know. What is this?! And I don't know myself, really. It's one of the most bizarre Weekend Forecast that I've put together. EVER. :funny:

This is NOT a holiday weekend, nothing of the sort, but audiences might be treating weekends as such due to not being able to see films over the weekdays unless they're, well, jobless non-students basically since theaters are closing early, basically preventing most people from going out to theaters on the weekdays. Students and office workers just can't go to the theaters outside of the weekends right now since the last showings are starting at 5/6PM. But...the past weekdays have been abnormally strong, too, so I really don't know what's driving so many people to the theaters over them, honestly.

Saturday reservations are huge. Almost everything is WAY up versus last week, easily holiday level increases if they're an indicator of what's going to happen over the weekend itself.

So this Weekend Forecast is using a lot of guess work given how abnormal (abnormally strong) the box office has been all week, and as I said, looks to be going into the weekend based on Saturday reservations. I'm basically taking ~20% off what the pre-sales are suggesting for Saturday, in the event that audiences are going to rush out over the weekends, thus treating them sort of like discount days or holidays since they don't have much opportunity to see films over the weekdays right now with many theaters closing early (but the weekdays have been great, excellent, so I don't know! lol).

NOTE: If for some reason the Saturday reservations were oddly skewing VERY high as sales come in for the day, I'll let everyone know fairly early on so no one is expecting a weekend like this.

I will expand to Biggest 21st Weekends and onward when Demon Slayer reaches that point. I can expand this out to Biggest 29th Weekends at the very least.

Your Name. began to dominate in Week 20, and continues to do so from Week 21 on, so we'll probably end up with just Your Name. and Demon Slayer at some point on these lists since everything else, including Spirited Away, either fell too far down the charts to rank or ended their runs not long after Week 20. Frozen was almost finished come Week 21, and Howl's Moving Castle shortly fell too far down the charts to rank. Bohemian Rhapsody played for about a year in theaters, but it was in very limited release from Week 25 or so on.

I typed up a pretty extensive weekend analysis with the Weekend Estimates yesterday, so I'm going to skip it with the actuals here since it still applies.

The Night Beyond the Tricolored Window has an estimated weekend gross based on its 3-day actual, which it sold 81,000 admissions over across 326 screens. Nothing to write home about, clearly, but films like this are common place in off-season months like January.

This weekend was great overall. We're going to have some weaker weekends in terms of earnings like this one once in awhile in the absence of any Hollywood releases, but the holds this weekend were largely exceptional and better than an average weekend this time of year. It's very similar to the abnormal strength that the past weekdays (and from Monday this week) have displayed, so let's wait and see how long this "boon" lasts.

Going to forecast that Demon Slayer will achieve its 16th-consecutive weekend atop the box office, but it could be very close and potentially get bumped to second in admissions. Gintama: The Final is either aiming for a very small decline, or a potential small(ish) increase from a second round of giveaways. And the bottom half of the Top 10 is likely to be very close in rankings.

Another great weekend for the box office in terms of holds and stability, once again mirroring the incredibly strong weekdays that started a couple weeks ago.

I'm pretty confident that Loved Like a Flower Bouquet opened at #1 in admissions, but the race is close in revenue since Demon Slayer: Mugen Train has had a very high average ticket price in recent weeks due to the strength of its 4DX showings. I'm giving Demon Slayer the slight edge in revenue, which would give it its 16th-consecutive weekend atop the box office, but it'll come down to the actuals tomorrow.

Whatever happens, this is a big weekend for Tokyo Theaters Co. (and Little More) with the success of Loved Like a Flower Bouquet. They likely won the weekend in admissions, giving them one of their few (if not very first) #1 film at the weekend box office, and this is certainly one of their biggest openers ever. I'm not confident enough to say it's their biggest ever without doing some research, but it's up there for them for sure.

And we have yet another great weekend in terms of holds.

>Loved Like a Flower Bouquet pulled off an excellent second weekend increase to repeat atop the box office for a second time. I mentioned on Friday that the lack of romance films over better part of 6-months, or more, is likely benefitting this one greatly. In general, romance films tend to have strong legs, but we might see this one develop amazing legs moving forward. It's very likely to reach ¥1.5 billion (~$15 million), and might approach/reach ¥2 billion (~$20 million). This will, without a doubt I believe, become Tokyo Theaters, Co.'s highest grossing film ever.

>Demon Slayer: Mugen Train enjoyed another amazing hold to add to its incredible stability since early/mid-January. Unless it suddenly begins to drop heavier, a total above ¥38 billion (~$365 million) is about guaranteed now. And while it will of course take a couple more months, its chances of reaching ¥40 billion (~$380 million+) remain fairly good.

>Jukai Village performed much better than its pre-sales were suggesting. It might have missed a ¥100 million (~$1 million) opening weekend, mostly depends on its average ticket price, so I'd consider it a bit of a disappointment if it does. But given this film is likely more dependent on evening/night showings (which don't exist right now due to restrictions), I don't think we can call it an outright disappointment. Its predecessor developed great legs this time last year, so let's wait and see what it does in the long-run versus trying to analyze its opening.

>Endless SHOCK's estimate is more of a guess. If its average ticket price is "normal" or even a bit high, it should come in around the estimate tomorrow. But this film could very well have event tickets that will cause its avg. ticket price to skyrocket and come in noticeably higher than estimated. Without knowing this though, we'll just have to wait to see where it came in at tomorrow, at least hopefully. Being a Toho Video Division distribution, it may take an extra day to get the actual.

I'll wait until the actuals to analyze the other films. Across the board though, nearly everything continues to have either good or even excellent legs.
