I am not sure about How do you live. But, who knows if Avatar 2 repeat Top Gun Maverick. But, we currently has more cons then pros!

 

For starter, TGM was actually expected to do some numbers based on MI series around ¥4-5B

Yeah my mind was off and I edited immediately, sorry. Should be premiere but also I don't think any of these sites checks for audience presence so I'd take it with a grain of salt until sample size is high, a lot of these scores both positive and negative likely have not seen the film.

Anyway PS in jp feels very muted for friday to me atm (pure weekend isn't open yet). IMAX screens are selling fairly well but the more you leave those premium screens the more it feels weak. Even with atp being hella high I am not really thinking 1b 3 days at the moment. Will need very strong legs here but I still think this is the market that will drop the most from A1 (even moreso in USD).

Yeah this is what it feels like. Outside of IMAX and a bit of 4d, shows aren't selling well at all. I think it will lose a looot of non-premium screens after its first weekend.

 

Honestly...let's wait and see I guess, but this market seems likely to disappoint big time to me.

Isn't it what happened to Avatar 1 too? People only wanted to watch the movie in 3D format that what made its ATP so high that time.

Okay, it's clear now 80% of Avatar 2 OW will come from IMAX screens.

 

As we are 1st ½ hr into SAT Reservation where TOHO Shinjuku already got 2 shows at 90% & 2 shows at 50% among 5 shows already booked!!

Yeah IMAX sales are good. I think theaters will cut down on regular shows and just keep it on the premiums after OW if walk-ups don't deliver though.

Basically yeah its gonna just do the majority of its business in 3D combined with premium screenings. The first Avatar while it did good in theaters, did not leave a mark after leaving so since Home Video sales were okay and tv ratings were meh. Is it a possibility that besides falling in USD it can also fall in JPY from Avatar 1 to Avatar 2?

I'd say it's far more than a possibility. Feels like a pretty high chance to me.
