JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

I really like using local currency for foreign markets box office especially Japan b/c it is more interesting and not worth using the Dollar to compare performances of movies b/c although Suzume in Dollar is lower than WWY it is actually going to be high in Yen as a final box office result so that makes it the actual deal.

I initialy didnt like it very much but on rewatch i appreciated more. I think if you seperated from Ghibli and just watch it as a random short movie its pretty enoyable and refreshing

Yes. I think ocean waves is an anomaly of Ghibli movies since it doesn't even feel anything like Ghibli .

Since everybody it talking about their favourite Japanese movies I'd like to share my list (obviusly excluding movies of franchises like for example the Dragon Ball or Detective Conan ones)

1) Grave of the Fireflies

2) Your Name

3) Perfect Blue

4) Sword of the Stranger

5) Here I'm undecided between 5 Centimeters per Second and A Silent Voice

If you haven't watched some of them they are really recommended!

Although Suzume has been proclaimed as reaching the 10 Billion Yen mark in Japan on Sunday, some Japanese speakinh twitter users say it might miss reaching it on Sunday and could instead hit it on Monday.

i.e. a 50/50 chance of not reaching today. Let's see how it holds through out the day.

Avatar have 0.1% for recovering here or we can 100% sure  it’s already dead?

3rd Weekend Drop will be pretty heavily as 31 Dec/1 Jan falls on Sat/Sun. Won't be surprised if drops are more than 60%. I think we can conclude that it's dead after 4th Weekend.

2nd Weekend will make Avatar rank 3rd both in admits &gross. Final still ranging ¥3B-¥4B, i.e. $22.6M-$30.1M.

Still largely a huge success for Disney as they haven't had any film reaching ¥3B ($22.6M) since Post-CoVid-19.

Don't forget. Maybe I was also one of group who really appreciated to see Avatar 2 at ¥10B

I did conclude that it should be the highest grossing film of 2023 Japan.

Well, sadly it end up unexpectedly
