Ava2 did, unsurprisingly though. MCU films have some of the absolute worst legs in Japan and NWH had to move out of the holidays to avoid being crushed by JJK too. NWH opened to 905M satsun/1.367b 3days, A2 opened to 477M satsun/ 646M 3days.

Thanks for the answers, I was interested about those two recent disappointment but as we know one was clearly bigger than the other. For No Way Home I was expecting 5B yen and it did a bit less with an opening which was already a little below expectations but still leaving some hope for the legs, which weren't enough

 

For Avatar instead I was expectng 7/8 Billion (half of the first) but the bad opening was also accompanied by disappointing legs, had it done x10 the first 3 days there wouldn't have been much to complain but this is quite bad. We'll see how the next one goes

Avatar franchise will probably perform like a high tier cbm in Japan going forward I would guess. It is what it is.

Meanwhile the DS recap/preview thing right where I expected, should go ~950M with some room to go higher/lower if sun holds better than I think and/or atp is higher than expected (both possible), or lower if rural share is even lower than expected (also possible, though it is already pretty conservative on this since that is expected).
