The newest incarnation of Godzilla is the biggest version of the iconic character yet, standing an astonishing 118.5 meters (389 feet), eclipsing Legendary's recent Godzilla from 2014. 

And reviews so far, from the press, have been very positive, praising the new film for its unprecedented filmmaking achievements, while maintaining the fundamental message and spirit of Godzilla. Online signs are strong, there's been a yearning for a Godzilla for many years now that's reminiscent of the Showa and Hensei periods of the character that's also capable of representing Japan in its modern day. And based on the first critic reviews and premiere reactions, this one might just be that film. 

Toho has also announced that the film has already been sold to over 100 territories. After Japan, it'll debut in other Asian markets in August/September, and Funimation announced at Comic-Con that they'll be distributing the film across North America, South America, and the Caribbean later this year.

Realistically, I don't think it will make that much in its opening weekend. Godzilla (2014) only opened with $4,992,630. Realistically, I believe the opening gross for this will only be a little more than that. What matters most will be how it is received. Word of mouth is important, because that's the only reason Godzilla made as much as it did.
