Bohemian Rhapsody will enjoy its fifteenth-consecutive week in the Top 10 this weekend. I'm expecting it to achieve either 17 or 18 weeks in the Top 10.

BTS World Tour released Sunday in Japan.

Looking to be #1 on Sunday with an attendance rate of over 95%. Has got an attendance (in usual 2/3 market) of 53115 / 55692.

Also all other movies are down a lot from last Sunday (as expected), with BR holding much better than everything else (still -40% compared to others' -50%)

Any info on Alita's previews? The Deadline WE breakdown has this line in it about fans in Japan going to see it four times?

They appear to exist only in DL spin machine. This is what Corpse said:

:mer:

R136a1: It honestly just sounds like a line thrown out there to build "hype". Perhaps it has previews in Japan this weekend, but I spent a solid 10-minutes searching the busiest prefectures and couldn't find it playing anywhere until next weekend.

Based on its marketing, decent reviews, online rankings/searches, etc., I think it'll do decent business. Maybe a similar performance as last year's Ready Player One. They're also really pushing Cameron's name in the market. Casual moviegoers probably wouldn't even know Rodriguez is the director (I didn't see his name once in any article headlines this month), but there aren't many casual moviegoers in the market, so while I think plastering Cameron's name all over the marketing is probably "smart", and may help it, it shouldn't give it a significant boost.

Thoughts from Corpse. It seems that it was a live broadcast and won't be included in box office rankings:

Not surprising. To my knowledge, they've sold out all all of their Love Yourself World Tour dates since it began last August. I think their tour was the second biggest in the world in 2018.

They had two shows over the weekend in Japan, and Sunday's show was broadcast live in theaters. Live broadcasts aren't included in the box office rankings, though.

As mentioned in the weekend forecast, this weekend was a slow one before the upcoming Spring box office season begins. A few films did drop a bit harder than expected, but overall, no notable performances really.

>Aquaman repeats atop the box office, however, while this is its second victory in revenue, it actually comes in second place once again in admissions (selling 126,000). Its second weekend drop is basically the standard for the genre, and it's on track for a total a little above ¥1.5 billion ($15 million), perhaps finishing with ¥1.6 billion or so.

>Fortuna's Eye debuts in second place, selling 141,000 admissions over the weekend frame across 302 screens. That admissions figure was enough to achieve first place over the weekend in ticket sales, but its low average ticket price prevented it from reaching the top in gross. Not a bad start, and it should be enough to almost guarantee a total above the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone.

>Masquerade Hotel remain in third place, continuing its very impressive run for this time of year at the box office. Its five week admissions have exceeded 2.8 million. It remains on course to finish around ¥4.5 billion ($40 million+), which will keep it in the yearly top 10 for most of the year, if not for the entire year (albeit at the bottom).

>Bohemian Rhapsody is still going strong, and achieves the fifth biggest fifteenth weekend on record, and is only the sixth film to gross more than ¥100 million in its fifteenth weekend of release. I expect it'll finish near ¥12.5 billion ($111/112 million) unless it surprises at the Oscars this upcoming weekend.

Alita: Battle Angel $740k Friday.

I don't know if that's correct but using a source I cracked recently. give or take $25k say.

Doing a extrapolation from it's 39k admissions in mimorin (assuming that is 66% of the market, avge ticket price of 1400 yen because of 3d push and 1 USD = 111 yen) I get to 740K USD.

Seems legit

Someone needs to ban marveldcfox permanently, he's already been banned from another Alita related thread, he's pulling the same shit everywhere he goes. We get it, you want the film to fail, go away now.

If Alita stans can tell people that they are mentally ill for underpredicting Alita then I say that he can say whatever he wants.

Besides, this is not an Alita thread lol

I was guessing 20-30 usd total from Japan for Alita. Is that out of reach?

No. Its early numbers is comparable to Aquaman and id guess that Alita should have a bit better legs than a superhero movie (Japan is not so friendly to that genre) and Aquaman seems to target the 20M region.

Thanks for the heads up. Already put on ignore now.

Good shout, might even push to $750k+ as I suspect ticket price is likely even higher than 1400.

Nope. Fridays are just another workday for Japan. Not comparable to Sat-Sun.

Presale figures will be released about 8 hours from now, will see what it looks like. For now, $750k just indicates it's not flopped on opening. As I'm sure you know, the legs are more important for Japan.

Did 10% less admissions than Aquaman first Friday.
