This can help EG in Japan. Conan is very popular.

Funnily enough, wasn't IW beaten by Conan last year?

Personally my three highly anticipated runs in terms of Hollywood movies in Japan are Frozen 2, Aladdin and Lion King. Beauty did like 12.4B there and we know how big Frozen was so it's gonna be interesting to see the likely drop off in Frozen 2 and if Aladdin/Lion King can match or exceed Beauty's gross there.

Speaking of Conan, Corpse:

I'm estimating a weekend gross of ¥1,370,000,000 ($12.3 million) on 1,065,000 admissions. That's the traditional 2-day, and doesn't include any figures from its Friday opening day. If this number holds, then it'll achieve:

>Biggest April Opening Weekend.
>Biggest Opening Weekend in the Detective Conan Franchise.
>3rd Film to Exceed 1 Million Admissions on Opening Weekend This Decade.
>3rd/4th Biggest Opening Weekend for a Japanese Film.
>3rd/4th Biggest Opening Weekend for an Animated Film.

The 3rd/4th place ranking will depend on if it bested One Piece Film Z (very, very close), currently the 3rd ranked film on the Japanese and Animated Film Opening Weekend Charts.

And while daily numbers are almost never revealed, I'm confident in saying that its Sunday gross/admissions is the second biggest this decade, only behind the first Yo-Kai Watch film from 2014. Also, given that imported films tend to drop/stay level on Sunday, it's likely that this film had a potential All-Time Top 5 Sunday performance.

Yeah true still IW had a big OW but legs for most SH movies aren't very good. So honestly if EG connects (most likely won't) a 7 multi from OW instead of the 4 IW had.  It would make a big difference.

IW wasn't just beaten by Conan. They're on complete different levels. In fact, right now Conan is in a league of its own box office-wise compared to other movie franchises. They're pairing these two movies up to urge people to go to the movies on Golden Week, since they are two of the biggest ones released during this time.

No one should watch 5 cm per second that movie is injustice. When I watched it I didn't want to touch anything..... God just thinking about that movie makes me hate it so much.... Atleast the new manga version has better ending... 5 cm per second ia the most depressing movie I've ever seen I wouldn't recommend it to anybody (jk) (cries in corner)...

Watch "Grave of the fireflies" and you will see what is a depressing movie. It's amazing, but I have never felt so bad after watching a movie.

Then how come is AEG releasing at same date as domestic (or near)

Special circumstance.

Typically Japan gets movies 2+ months later than NA, they thrive on WOM and they have little fan rush (hence the long legs for movies). Piracy is also nonexistent so they're happy to wait.

>Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, the twenty-third film in the long-running franchise, set the box-office ablaze in its debut weekend. It sold a truly staggering 1,144,539 admissions over the weekend frame across 403 screens, and reached 1,458,263 since opening on Friday! The film set a new April Opening Weekend Record, as well as a new Franchise Opening Weekend Record. Among those new records, it also achieved the second biggest opening weekend in the past eleven years, along with becoming the third biggest animated film opener and Japanese film opener.

The growth that this annual franchise has reached is beyond remarkable, and it's just dominating the Japanese box-office. Unless the franchise begins to decline over the years, it's going to remain a contender for the #1 spot at the box-office every year if it remains on this scale (last year's film would have been #1 if not for Bohemian Rhapsody breaking out). It's a bit too early to say where the film may finish, but with the standard legs of the franchise, it'll reach a total around ¥8 billion ($70 million+). However, the franchise has also begun to develop stronger legs along with its stronger openings, so it could very well reach ¥9/10 billion ($80-90 million).

In a massive shock turn of events in Japan, Bohemian Rhapsody is back in the top 10. Yesterday it was 8th, today it was 6th!

A huge 47% increase from last week when everything else is roughly 20-40% down.

Can it actually manage another top 10 this weekend?

With golden week incoming, I wonder if it could really go bonkers in that.

According to Corpse, it will lose a lot of theaters by then.

I believe [Bohemian Rhapsody] is seeing the increases this week due to it losing theaters at a gradual pace now, causing the last bit of people interested in seeing in theaters (whether as a repeat or for the first time) to come out. It's down to 177 locations now, and after next week when more theaters are scheduled to lose it (04/25), it'll likely be under 100 by the end of the month.

Going into this upcoming weekend, it's still losing a lot of seating/showtimes, and will probably be out of the Top 25 widest releases in terms of seating/showtimes next week.
