I recently found an updated list of the highest-grossing superhero movies of all time in Japan:

Marvel:

¥7.50 billion ($59.2 million) - Spider-Man (2002)

¥7.12 billion ($67 million) - Spider-Man 3 (2007)

¥6.70 billion ($61.1 million) - Spider-Man 2 (2004)

¥6.13 billion ($55.3 million) - Avengers: Endgame (2019)

¥4.2 billion ($36.5 million) - Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)

¥3.74 billion ($34.1 million) - Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

¥3.61 billion ($46.2 million) - The Avengers (2012)

¥3.21 billion ($26 million) - Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

¥3.16 billion ($39.1 million) - The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

¥3.14 billion ($30.7 million) - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

¥3.06 billion ($28.1 million) - Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

¥2.80 billion ($25.6 million) - Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

¥2.63 billion ($24.1 million) - Captain America: Civil War (2016)

¥2.57 billion ($26.4 million) - Iron Man 3 (2013)

DC:

¥5.06 billion ($46.7 million) - Joker (2019)

¥3.00 billion ($20 million) - Batman (1989)

¥2.55 billion ($12 million) - Superman II (1981)

Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are also the only two films on this list that appear in the 100 highest-grossing films of all time in Japan. How much do you think "Spider-Man: No Way Home" will do?

I mean, I’d like for nostalgia/curiosity to take hold in Japan like it has domestically and we could maybe get over ¥7B but I’m tempering my expectations down to about ¥4B.

Superman(1978) hit over ¥5B in Japan ,which was 7th Highest grossing film of all-time in Japan at that time

Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0 got 418 theatres with IMAX screens. So, ¥1500M-¥2000M OW is on the cards. So, far there is no news regarding international release but the film might be dropped to Netflix as streaming platform (if there is no theatrical engagement) &a possibility of getting HBO Max release in North America.

Stoked for this love a bunch of his films like Your Name, 5 Centimetres Per Second and Garden of Words. I'm sure this is going to look stunning!

I hope so. At the same time, 10 billion + in box office but his film "Weathering With You" open bigger than "Your Name" but ended 10 billion lower. I pray that people appreciate his works &make 20 billion as new possibility.

I earlier mentioned that Industry forecast ¥7B /¥7000M opening for JJK Movie 0. These numbers are estimated based on 5M giveaway on "JJK Novel Vol 0.5" which is equivalent to ¥7B /¥7000M. Toho &it's Associates think that they can mobilized 5M visitors on OW through theatrical benefits. Although, winter months are quite busy, &Japan Box Office can handled traffic up to ¥3-¥4B in SD, based on ticket pricing. But, I have immediate doubt on how much damage the Imported Films (Matrix 4 &Boss Baby 2 will received on JJK OD, also It's King'smen OD too...relatively low tier franchise. Even, if JJK managed ¥7000M OW but it will be a-way too frontloaded meaning to say ¥25B ending (¥30B at best). But, it's still surprising that JJK staff are trying their best to dethrone Demon Slayer from "All-time Highest Grossing Film in Japan" (Already dethroning DS on Yearly manga sales) I wished them a good luck &prayed for that record.

Is Encanto boycotted by theaters in Japan? Or are people just waiting for disney plus, bc it seems it has a low performance over there?

Low audience score because Omicron Variant, force parents to limit their children to D+. On the other hand, the work will be dropped out after 4th week because of 30 days release windows, for which market is not frontloaded and always leggy up to 10/15 weeks. In short, Encanto will earn more in Streaming than in theatres.
