JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

It has believe have reached ½ of that number. Though, we will see tomorrow. However, I am a bit off to see JWD grossing more than LightYear.

Interesting, Avatar 2 isn't in the list so Hollywood might take No.1 highest grossing film in 2023 (in Japan)....

JP BO is december-december instead of calendar so makes sense. I actually kind of wonder about avatar, obviously the first one made a lot in jp but it wasn't the crazy phenomenon it was in most box offices only placing 8th at the time. It's been a long time and Japan can often be unfavourable to sequels so not really sure what to think of it.

The minions "expectation" makes no sense to me though, the first minions barely made 5 billion in 2015 so I see little reason why 2 would be up 40% on it, I think it's more likely it decreases instead. 9 billion for TG seems possible depending on how well it holds from here on out though 8 seems safer.

Lightyear and the shinkai film are kind of oddballs, will depend on reception I guess especially the shinkai one. The One Piece film is probably gonna outperform minions 2 imho, maybe even kingdom 2.

I still think slam dunk is going to be a strong performer, december might be more likely though.

I am aware that of Calendar. Just thinking if Avatar 2 is going to release on Jan/March 2023. Though site says Dec 2022.

These are just expectations so we don't need to feel irritate/frustrated about it. NWH didn't reach ¥5.0B when Sony was highly anticipating it.

Minions 2 (expectation as you said) is like a joke to me. (I am thinking that) Kingdom 2 likely going to crash it.

Shinkai Movie feels like ¥15.0B+. Though I won't over hype it.

One Piece Red will affect the screen share of JWD. But with OS review being so bad, I think ¥7.0B is already high for JWD.... But will see..

LightYear is a dark horse. Some talking about Toy Story-type final. Well, being Pixar's 1st Theatrical Release since 2019, I think anything is possible. But, I hope no Streaming Window in 60/120 days run. At least, keep Japan out of that scheme.

Maverick is lately being compared with Avatar &sub-Bohemian Rhapsody legs. I have no idea about where it will end. But, at present, I am going with ¥7B but will be happy if it exceeds Mission Impossible II .....

I don't remember how avatar went in japan, but TG has little in common with BoRap imho. That started fairly small and then increased for a ton of weekends consecutively, I think it has one of the best multipliers ever in Japan. Top Gun's legs are very good but definitely not BoRap crazy,  300M weekend/400M 3days to 13B finish is jacked.

I doubt avatar 2 misses december, I don't think there's going to be a JJK-NWH repeat where something opens so big that it just has to dodge it and sacrifice new years.

I do, yeah, but that's just my gut feeling, no reason to treat it as anything more than that. The series is a cult classic that still shows exceptional resilience, and with inoue directing I think so long as the entry barrier isn't steep (needing to read the whole series, for instance) if the film is good this can be very strong, I think even higher than 5 can be in the cards.

I know its still like 1 1/2 months away, but Japan could become one of Dominions biggest markets.

JW in 2015 did 74,5M and Fallen Kingdom in 2018 did 72,3M per Box office Mojo.

I would expect Dominion to gross at least 50M in Japan. I hope ofc that it will be able to match the prior installments, but im not sure WOM will be good enough for that.

50M jp is like best case scenario I think. Mostly because ER for the yen is horrible atm. Only -10% drop from FK is pretty much your 50M in usd with current exchanges. So, uh, yeah, kind of puts into perspective how bad they are I guess.

Oh wow i didnt know ER was this bad. Yeah, then 40M probably is more realistic with 50M beeing the high end.

I don't follow USD much, so I can't say how much accurate would that be in JPY (USD is also an estimate)

Here's an official update confirming that it has defeated FB3 (¥4.56B) with ¥4.6B until Tues.

&Estimate Total Until Wed — ¥4.77B
