You take exchange rate based on what the market says. its possible studios might have hedged their FX before the release and so its possible they are able to get higher rate due to that. There was a post from @RthMav on how studios does these things. Considering dollar has been strengthening for a while, it makes perfect sense to hedge it for sure.

On Wed (06/22), Paramount "Top Gun Maverick" exceeded ¥6.0B in 27-days. 1st Imported Film to exceed ¥6.0B since "Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker" (Dec. 2019).

Japan is competition-less until July 15. Marvel's "Thor: Love &Thunder" will do what Warner Bros's "The Batman" did back in March 2022. Pixar's "Buzz: LightYear" is now at two disadvantages - OS reviews are bombed &Disney+. (Though still a dark horse)

 

For now, I am at ¥9.0B par with Paramount Japan's expectations. I would just like to see how it holds against Universal's "Minions 2" &Toho's "Kingdom 2" (opens on 07/15) which would heavily impacted the share/loss of premium formats..!

Manga sales has dropped. Still Industry Projection is at ¥5.0B, &I am going with ¥4.0B at min. Clash will be big, as either of Minions 2 and Kingdom 2 are looking to be ¥1000M Opener across 3-days Opening Week.

2022 in Japan Box Office is currently leading ahead of 2021 by 40%. TOHO is leading on top, while Warner Bros is at 2nd, followed by Shochiku on 3rd! Shochiku had an huge growth of 196.6%, while TOHO had an min drop of 4.2%.

 

Top Works of this period (Jan-May, 2022) are Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0 (¥13.76B), Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween (¥9.0B), Fantastic Beast 3 (¥4.5B), Spider-man: No Way Home (¥4.2B) &Shin Ultraman (¥3.8B)

Officially defeated UIP's "Top Gun" (1986), which had an revenue of ¥6.7B (Rental at ¥3.95B). But, UIP,  the distributor of "Top Gun" (1986) is claiming ¥7.8B as the actual box office figure.... We will defeat that figure soon toooo
