JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Then it's safe to say Beauty and the Beast will outgross Alice in Wonderland, at least in yearn?!

I think Dumbledore being back and tying Hogwarts and Europe sort of to the story will have a pretty big impact. I am not hoping for 100m, but maybe 80-90m.

The Potter films were massive in Japan, specially the first three movies and the last one whom grossed more than $120 million each one. I hope that the next FB movies could, at least, follow the same path as the first one, but WB would have to create a big marketing about Dumbledore and Hogwarts.

Then how could BatB finish above 100 million?!

There are actually quite a few films whose 4-week totals were under Alice in Wonderland but ended up outgrossing it (some by a lot). Late legs are incredibly important in Japan, and Beauty and the Beast certainly has a path to surpassing Alice's 11.8 billion yen.

I guess Beauty won't have great competition till the opening of Pirates 5, this one will definitely make tons of money in Japan.

The post-Golden Week weekend regularly experiences harsh drops, and this weekend was no exception - lots of ~50%+ drops across the board.

>Beauty and the Beast easily took the top spot once again, delivering an impressive 35% decline post-Golden Week to claim its fourth-consecutive week atop the box office (and it won't be the last). After 24 days in release, Disney's latest live-action iteration has sold 5,649,320 admissions, becoming the most-attended film since last August, and the 97th reported film to exceed 5 million admissions at the box-office.

The film has several weeks, a month+ really, to continue its box-office dominance and will probably reach the ¥10 billion ($90 million+) uber-blockbuster milestone near the end of the month, and look for a total somewhere within the range of ¥11-12 billion ($100-105 million), a very common gross for Disney's biggest live-action releases (they have four other films that are actually in that range).

>Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 managed to squeak out a second place debut in a close battle for the position, selling 163,143 admissions over the weekend frame across 705 screens, besting the debut of its predecessor by a so-so 12%. The opening is big enough to guarantee a total above ¥1 billion ($10 million), but due to the general frontloaded nature of most Marvel/DC films, look for a total no higher than ¥1.5 billion ($13/14 million).

Marvel, and other imported comic/superhero studios, will likely never have a major presence in Japan, but their films are continuing to grow with the box-office, even if it's small increases year after year.

>Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter almost scored another week in second place, but a sub-50% decline post-Golden Week is certainly a welcomed accomplishment for the franchise. The 21st entry in the long-running series continues to outpace last year's record-breaking franchise film, and should finish around ¥6.5 billion ($60 million), a figure that's unlikely to be beaten by any other animated film this year. This will be the fifth-consecutive film in the series to break the franchise record.

>The Fate of the Furious wasn't spared the post-Golden Week decline, dropping over 50%, but after setting a new record opening for the franchise, it's very likely going on to outgross Furious 7 to become the highest-grossing film in the franchise as well. I expect a finish around ¥3.7/3.8 billion ($35 million).

>Your Name. is no longer being tracked, so its running total likely won't be reported now until it's officially completed its run in the coming weeks/months.

Sorry for being OT but I need help from Japanese fans. Just spotted this on reddit:

https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2017/05/japanese-star-wars-the-last-jedi-promotional-leaflet-teases-shocking-truth.html

Do you know whether translation is correct and whether the promo material is from official (Disney or Lucasfilm) source? Thanks. :)

Japan's going to be massive for BatB, and i'm predicting it could finish with at least $510.0 millions in North America is that too much?!

It can reach $510M if not for the super early Bluray release date, we have to wait and see.
