Looks like Japan have good taste!!!

This is less about taste and more about the legs in the market. Japan has smaller drops so it's easier for a big blockbuster to stay at number 1 for longer.

>Beauty and the Beast manages a very, very impressive second weekend increase after debut above the ¥1 billion mark last weekend. Its second weekend is so impressive, that it's the one of the Top 10 biggest 2nd Weekends of All-Time! Its two-week total trails a fair number of other uber-blockbusters, though it is ahead of Alice in Wonderland now (its primary comparison), but the boost from Golden Week this week will make up for that, so I'd say a total over ¥10 billion ($90 million+) is incredibly likely now.

>The Fate of the Furious settled for a distant second place, but its opening is really impressive nonetheless. The eighth film in the series sold 420,058 admissions over the weekend frame across 710 screens, managing a 17% increase over Furious 7's debut weekend. I doubt legs differ much from its predecessors, so a total around ¥3.5 billion ($30 million) looks good at the moment.

>Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter slips to third place, but its third weekend sets yet another weekend record for the franchise - biggest 3rd weekend in the series. It continues to outpace last year's film as well, so look for a total around ¥6.5 billion ($60 million) this year.

>Teiichi: Battle of Supreme High had a solid debut, selling 166,089 admissions over the weekend on 291 screens. Toho should be pleased with a total probably near ¥1.5 billion ($13 million).

>Blade of the Immortal rounds out the Top 5, selling 145,348 admissions over the weekend across 331 screens via Warner Bros. WB was likely hoping for a bit more, but the film will prove successful with a total also approaching ¥1.5 billion ($13 million).

Nice. F8 increased to #2  spot with actuals, although Conan not too far behind. BatB looking incredibly strong, and without question Japan will be the highest OS market for the film. I think over $100 million is very likely, although the drop after Golden Week will be more telling of its potential.

Due to Golden Week's Constitution Memorial Day, Beauty and the Beast is looking at its largest day yet! At 18:40 it's up to 250,808 admissions in the usual locations, just behind its largest day so far of 263,634 (Sunday of OW). Should easily become largest day, and could possibly break 300k admissions in usual locations, depending on evening shows. Looking at possible 550-650M yen for today! (Assuming ticket price of 1400-1500, not sure if discount due to holiday)

There's a discount since it's Ladies Day, so it probably won't be its largest day in yen. That will most likely be Friday which is Children's Day and is always the biggest Golden Week day.

Ah, I always forget about Ladies Day. Will the average ticket price be lower on Friday than usual though due to more Children attending? Or does Children's Day not actually get more Children in the cinemas?

Hey, can it hold great after the Golden week and make push towards 150M? So far numbers have been staggering.

Corpse says it has no competition for all of May and June. The biggest film that can challenge it is Pirates 5, which releases July 1.

Sing overperformed expectations (Corpse thought it wouldn't do well in Japan because of the Western songs being unfamiliar), and Moana underperformed (much weaker legs than Frozen, BH6, and Zootopia).

As expected to me, moana and sing have overlapping target audience......if universal/illumination was like few years ago, I doubt it could threaten disney, but after minion and secret life of pets, they proved themselves to be capable to challenge disney's dominance in japan.....
