The Equalizer finished at 60% and the reviews have sounded similar in terms of praise (fun, but not much meat to it). Comparisons to the original are inevitable too. Should finish around that same mark.

I think there weren't as many remakes then.  They are sick of them NOW.  And take it out on even good ones.

 

However, we have seen audiences ignore critics several times this year.

I think more it's poor choice to phrase when trying to praise the original Magnificent 7 as a plot not done to death, when it is of course a remake, a remake of a classic no less. It's at best stupid, at worst disingenuous.

 

(For me the original is better, but I like Mag 7 too.)

Most of the complaints I've seen so far are more about the very idea of remakes and the fact that the story is familiar and cliched. 

If that's the main issue, I'm good. Really. Sounds like the movie itself is fun, well made and entertaining. I knew it was gonna be a remake before I even watched the first trailer...

 

6-1 right now. Guess the THR review will also be a rotten. Wonder about The Guardian.

I'm not surprised that it's familiar, it's the Magnificent Seven! You can't stray too much from the plot otherwise people would complain. 

 

I still think Mag 7 will break the September record, how much remains to be seen.

So far it's mixed-to-positive, IMHO. Not raving enough to make anyone against remakes change his tune, but certainly not bad either. I don't think these reviews will hurt the BO, especially considering the things they highlight are what the GA is looking for, I think.

Reviews seem okay. I wasn't expecting much honestly, considering Fugua is not a director who makes critically acclaimed films.

Magnificent Seven isn't anything you haven't seen before, but regardless it's still fun. Cast was great, action scenes were cool. #TIFF16

RT starts with 86%, 1 rotten to 6 fresh. I expect it to end somewhere in the 60s.
