Ideas about GI Joe: Now top 11 and top 6 for dom OW

Crazy idea, but how about just allowing any changes that anybody wants BESIDES films that have already released? That's pretty much the only way to account for all of the variables and keep it fair for everyone at the same time. GI Joe's move has a (potentially) serious effect on films like Prometheus and Spider-Man.

I don't know Shawn. I don't like that. It's easier now to predict movies like MIB3, SWATH etc than it was a month ago.

Well, the time frame could be limited. Obviously changes on MIB3 shouldn't be allowed. Same for SWATH. But beyond that, its wide open.More specifically, anything releasing within 2 weeks or so of GI Joe is what will be most affected. So that's one way to limit what can and can't be changed -- but then editing ranks gets tricky also.

I agree with adim. The game's always been about predicting before summer starts. Though, yes, it would change everyone's predictions if there were no GI Joe and there are more repercussions following this move.Actually it wouldn't be fair. You can't really say whether people are changing their predictions due to GI Joe 2 or due to already knowing what's happened with Avengers/Dark Shadows/Battleship etc. Would rankings change? People could be bumping up movies by changing grosses and you can't ask them to have certain movies stay in one place.I think if, and only if Spider Man, Bourne, Total Recall, Expendables or other high profile movies start shuffling around to maximize potential should we do anything more drastic.Ted definitely benefits itself and hurts That's My Boy and helps the Watch but it's not big enough to potentially ward off a TASM move. And if TASM moves, the studios are not going to let SAVAGES open on July 4th by itself.

The top 11 idea is probably the most effective solution. Anyway, no matter what Baumer decides to go with, nothing is going to be perfect. Joe 2 threw a big wrench in the game, and nothing can really fix that.

Savages opens on the 6th. If TASM goes anywhere, its only going to be up by a few days (Mon/Tue/Wed).

Just food for thought, but in the future it might be a good idea to require "back up predictions" before summer starts. So we would predict #13 and #14, but they would only be counted if a major release leaves its release date.Anyway...this is a complicated problem. Cutting down to a top 11 seems like a pretty easy way to solve this. Mostly effective, but still, not without its problems.

That could work. I just wouldn't want this giving people a chance to revise all their fuck ups that have nothing to do with GIJ2. lol

I'm going to have to make a decision on this by the weekend. And I'm open to both and any other ideas that anyone might have. The top 11 to me makes the most sense but then adding another film into your 12 slot also makes sense. I'd like more people's opinions on this as well. As for Joe being in the opening weekends question and such, I'll look that over and the question might have to change to the best 4 or whatever it is.

11 is most fair and most sensible. Adding a 12 disadvantages those who didn't pick GI Joe 2 and who might've picked Dark Shadows/Battleship/Dictator.

I think we should be able to change anything from Prometheus until the weekend where Ted was supposed to open. Seriously. I have Thats My Boy in my top 12. I am doomed because Ted will cut his legs big time.

Here are my two cents:

Anyone who has G.I. Joe 2 in their Top 12 should be able to replace it with any movie that opens on the same day that the film was supposed to be released or later (so from June 29th on).

Anyone who did not include the film should have the option of changing out any single film in their Top 12 that opens on or after June 29th with any other film that opens on or later than June 29th.

I feel that this might be the fairest way to do it. It gives everyone an equal opportunity.

I disagree that the replacement film has to be put in the #12 spot. That'll affect the outcome too much. For example, I predicted G.I. Joe to be the 8th high grossing film. If I put it at #12, then my current #9-12 will all be bumped up. This could possibly lead to an increase in points for me, so that wouldn't be fair either. I have Snow White at #12. What if it ends up being the 11th highest grossing film? If we go by your idea of automatically putting the new film at #12, I will get points for having Snow White in the right spot, even though I didn't predict that at the beginning of the summer.

I understand your logic because it would only make sense that whatever films you didn't include in your top 12 originally weren't included because you thought the other 12 would obviously gross more, but it will probably affect the rest of our top 12 too much. I think each indivual player should be to make their own choice.

I like that too. Just cancel out GI Joe. And everyone who didn't have GI Joe can have the 12th film on their list cancelled out.

I think Top-11 is the easiest and the best way to go.... avoid all the complications altogether.As for Top-7 OW, either the same thing could be done (to make it Top-6), or people who had GIJ2 can add a film in the 7th position and 7th position only.
