4PM (est) Estimates: 17-19m FRI/ 48-52m OW

FRIDAY 1 PM UPDATE: There is a palpable sense of relief around Universal Pictures and even Hollywood this afternoon as its Snow White And The Huntsman is starting to show promise at the domestic box office. My sources are estimating that Friday’s opening looks like $17M to $19M, and the three-day weekend is shaping up as $48M to $52M. It now looks as if Snow White can break the post-Avengers early summer slump which has claimed 5 straight major studio releases so far. “Given the way the tracking has been, it was very difficult to project the scope of any opening for any film in the marketplace this season: good, bad, or indifferent,” a Uni exec just told me.

FRIDAY 4:30 PM, 2ND UPDATE: Universal just upped its North American box office estimates for Snow White And The Huntsman to $19M-$21M for today and $50M-$56M for this weekend.

All hail Nikki!!!

:D

Well, looks like Universal's obvious low-balling worked and now apparently a sub-50 opening is considered great. Cause there's no way that's what they were expecting with how much money they've poured into this.

LOLIf the number sticks OW will go higher than 50m. Their lowballing did nothing to affect actual box office.

It affected perceptions. I doubt anyone here would've thought $50 million would be a good opening for this even a week ago,

They release their lowball like yesterday. 50m would have always been a strong number. Yeah some people pushed for more but you can't be mad at 50m.

Totally. Considering the budget and star power real or imagined, they must have expected higher hence lowballing.
